The Official God of War Thread - Part 1

He killed all the interesting gods in the console games. I dont want them to start focusing on the more random lesser gods as was done in the PSP games, at least not for a console experience. Theres no where else to take Kratos IMO. The only thing that can be done with him at this point is to reboot the series and if they did that it should be a new story and not take too much inspiration from the original Kratos' saga

End the franchise instead of rebooting it!

Or send Kratos after Norse gods, Egyptian Gods, and other mythologies. It would be sweet to fight King Arthur and gain Excalibur.

Not necessarily, unless you drastically change the look of the character, the backstory, gameplay and/or visual style.

And I'd be totaly ok with that. Maybe a new protagonist, or some reincarnation of Kratos in another era, taking on gods from other mythologies...there are interesting ideas out there. It doesn't even need to be just a new guy slaying different gods.

I'd like to see what else Santa Monica can do in the vein of mythology, action and epic adventures.

I'd be okay with God of War with a different protagonist, maybe even meeting Kratos along the line kinda like DevilMayCry4 with Nero and Dante.

I just don't want a reboot ala DMC.

None of that stuff fits in the world of GoW that SM created which was heavily rooted in Greek mythology. Kratos died. He comes back from the dead to fight king Arthur for Excalibur? There are no Egyptian gods here. And Norse mythology is way too similar to Greek to work here. Most of the gods are the same but with a name change. If they were to implement any of this stuff, they'd have to reboot the series and make it about Egyptian gods, or Norse mythology, etc... None of that really has a place in the current series

Reboot doesnt equal drastically altering the main character. Its done to do away with previous canon and start with a fresh new story, which opens up more possibilities especially if the previous one has been exhausted. A GoW reboot, doesnt mean they'd do something like what was done with DmC

But at least with God of War they ended the story. Kratos killed everyone, himself and spread hope for a new generation, which wouldn't depend on multiple gods and fear them. That was the finale. They did end the franchise.
Now they're milking the series with a prequel.

Yeah, I would never like to see this get rebooted. This isn't Hollywood. Plus this series isn't even that old. The first game came out less than 10 years ago.

In gaming, milking a series seems unavoidable and guaranteed to happen. Halo 3 and Gears of War 3 were supposedly the end, yet they continued. I wouldn't be surprised to see another Mass Effect and Modern Warfare show up. I wouldn't mind Kratos having to deal with new gods arising trying to break what he worked so hard to achieve.

The 30 minute gameplay looked good the beginning was definitely interesting i like how they are refreshing the combat system by being able to pick up weapons off the ground and hurling it at other enemies.

No big franchise will ever end! They'll either be successful forever or be milked to the ground till the franchise has lost all worth. In the case of Aliens games even past that point.

By the end of God of War II I had my fill of this series, and I dislike the Kratos character as much as he hates everything else. He's awful.

I wish Sony Santa Monica were making a new protagonist with some other mythology, or rebooting/continuing Heavenly Sword.
