The notion of Meloni as Lex is a nice thought. Based upon his role as Chris Keller on HBO's Oz, the guy is perfectly capable of playing a cunning, machiavellian type character to say the very least.

With the approach they're going for with the re-imagining of the universe and also with Goyer's (and Nolan's) trademark twists then yeah, it's definitely something we should be prepared for.

Some poor photoshopping there considering it's official. Whoever tweaked it made it look like he's only got stubble above the right side of his lip

I think I'd prefer if he wasnt Lex, but rather worked for Lex in secret and reported back to him in one of the final scenes.
I still want a big name-surprise for Lex and a great introduction to him in the sequel. Then Meloni can be second in command of the Intergang.

I haven't really read articles that felt like Lex was missing. I hope he does get some kind of mention in the movie.
As a notable scientist/businessman involved in politics, I would imagine he would be vocal and people would pay attention to his reaction after hearing about Superman's "first encounter.

Yesterday I read Lex Luthor: Man of Steel and, to me, that's Lex Luthor done right. I get that version, I'm there.

Daniel Day Lewis is perfect. His character in There Will Be Blood is so amazing. I've always viewed Lex as a similar figure in terms of ambition, grit, and obsession.
Couple that with charm and intelligence which I know DDL is more than capable of doing, then there's no discussion on why anyone would oppose this choice. Only he decides if he wants to be in the movie. But I would like to bring up Jason Clarke again (Public Enemies, Lawless, and Zero Dark Thirty). The dude needs a breakthrough role.
