With a new Batman movie series, a new Alfred is inevitable. How would you like to see Alfred portrayed in the upcoming reboot, and who would be best to play him?
Personally, I'd like to see the formula mixed up a bit from the previous two series. Where Michael Gough and Michael Caine played more elderly, nurturing types, I wouldn't mind seeing a more involved, war-toughened Alfred that plays more on his army background. Maybe make him a little younger (late fifties as opposed to early-mid seventies like the previous two Alfreds) and get him more involved in the action. I'm not saying he should fight crime alongside Batman, but I'd like to see him more hands-on in the detective work as a supporting figure to Bruce. Of course, he still should have that fatherly feel to him, but I'd like to see a little more from him this time around. I think Batman: The Animated Series is a good model to base him on. Maybe my ideas are terrible, but that's just my way of seeing it. How would you like Alfred to be portrayed? |

Pierce Brosnan is my preferred choice.
He has that dry wit about him. Cool demeanor. But can play the father role when needed. I feel he would suit Alfred perfectly for the comics. And I want him to be more tolerant and accepting of Bruce as Batman. Alfred should know being a military man that every person has a war to fight.

Part of me still wants to see Anthony Hopkins take on the role. At least then Alfred would have good diction. I'm all for a younger, tougher Alfred, though. They sort of played with the idea that Alfred had a military/spy past in the most recent franchise, but never really capitalized on that.

I had never thought of Pierce Brosnan playing Alfred, but I think he'd be a fine choice.

I really want Alfred to have his pencil mustache.

John Cleese. He has shown he can handle dramatic roles as well as the silly ones.

I'd go for an Alfred in his 40's or 50's. Ray Fiennes would be my pick. He can do the dry humor while at the same time you could believe he could handle himself without needing Bruce to protect him.

I'd love Cleese as Alfred. His comedic touches would be perfect for Alfred, who's a funny guy when he wants to be.

I dislike the Brosnan idea. Dalton or Rickman sound better.
If anyone suggests Idris Elba, so help me....

Pierce Brosnan is definitely a left-field choice. Irons would also be good.

Other actors I wouldn't mind seeing as Alfred would be Colin Firth, Geofferey Rush, and Rhys Ifans for a 40 something Alfred , assuming Bruce is 20 something. Yes, I know he was in ASM.

One of the best casting choices I have heard for Alfred in recent years in Simon Callow

I suppose if you cast someone in their 50s or early 60s you could go further. But I imagine it will be more formal and like Gough and TAS in the future. Just a hunch.

Don't know who that is, but he looks like he'd be a good Alfred.
