I tried googling the heck out of it and got a variety of different answers...so yeah. Anyone playing their Wii Games on their Wii U that can tell me? Thank you.

while the Wii remote or nun chuck can be used on the Wii U, it's not necessarily needed, But you can use it if you wish to for almost any game you want.

Also, isn't the Wiimote Plus thing necessary? Like the Wii U won't recognize standard remotes or something?

My Wii U recognizes both my original Wiimote and the Wiimote Plus. All of my accessories work with no problem too.

You need the Wiimote Plus for any WiiU games can have use the Wiimote as a controller, such as New Super Mario Bros. U.
