From WAR MACHINE to IRON PATRIOT and BEYOND

We don't really need derivated heroes at all in the movies, their only justification for existence in the comics is that the main characters have existed for more than half a century, and every storyline has been done a million times. That's not the case in the films.

Those are my two cents, anyways.

Agree 100%. I love the comics universe Rhodey but there are far too many Avengers way more deserving of a roster spot than "Iron Man No. 2".

I think it would be hard to have WM in his own film. He doesn't really have a definitive story arc, at least not yet. His suit doesnt really evolve over time like Tony's so I think the only way we can see WM again would be in some type of team up film, whether it be AV2 or something new.

A War Machine solo film could be cool but you're right. Rhodey doesn't have any real character defining arcs to inspire a feature film. Most of the character's appearances have been team-ups. Hell, my favorite War Machine arc had him fighting Cable in the Africa. The chances of something like that happening on the big screen are between 0 and 1% (even if Fox didn't have the rights to mutants).

I voted for more guest appearances in other movies. Most people will think WM and IM are the same just on the looks/suit thing. We all know the differences with WM being the heavier MarkII, no icing resistance, & typical military weaponry.

Maybe War Machine puts on the Space Armor and becomes part of the Guardians movie rather than Tony. That way you would still have an "Iron Man" in that story and also still have the real one on earth for Avengers 2 plus you would not have to worry about where was WM at during what ever - he was in space!

But speaking of "where was WM," I think they might have actually addressed that question regarding his absence from the Avengers movie. There's already a (presumably canon) comic-book prequel to IM3 that shows that WM was off fighting Ten Rings terrorists in Hong Kong at the time of the Avengers movie; but I noticed a short clip in today's trailer of Iron Patriot busting in on what's apparently a Ten Rings stronghold, and that *could* be the "interim" scene during Avengers.....or not. Just a thought.

I don't think they'll give a big explanation for why he wasn't present. It was beyond his league. In the end the army were unable to cope.

In the IM3 prequel comics, Tony sent Rhodey into Hong Kong to investigate a lead into the Ten Rings organization. It turned out to be a trap, which WM/Rhodey handled and eventually got to New York but only in time to watch the Avengers in the shawarma shop. I'm not sure if they'll touch on this but maybe in passing they will.

I don't think they will, seeing as they never really draw on the movie comics in the films. Which doesn't really make sense.

Don't know for sure as it hasn't been specified when WM turns into IP and if/when he goes back into being WM.

Oh ok. I haven't read much spoilers besides the prequel comic and seen some upcoming merchandise but I'm pretty much expecting he ends the movie going back to the gray paint colors, most likely during the final fight.

Well you never know since the prequel comic established that Tony gave that new upgraded WM armor to Rhodey after the events of Iron Man 2 and that it's just pretty much a simple paint job that WM gets per request from the government.

The Mark II only appears in the prelude comic. But Tony crafts a new official Stark-designed War Machine that Rhodey wears in the movie.

No, Iron Patriot and War Machine are two separate armors in the movie.
I'm not *entirely* sure Stark even designed the Iron Patriot, but don't quote me on that. Iron Patriot is a US military design, but it remains to be seen how much of a hand Tony Stark had in it. The actual (new) War Machine armor is definitely designed by Tony, though.

The figurines they have of IP and WM sure seem very similar and only look to have different paint schemes. I hope they'll find a way to differentiate them in the movies if they are indeed separate suits.

Really? I seem to remember someone (possibly Feige) mention that the Iron Patriot was a simple paint job of the War Machine armor that Tony upgraded in the prelude comic.

Then again, over the past few months, I've consumed so much news, comics, rumors, speculation and miscellaneous media related to Iron Man in general and Iron Man 3 in particular, that it's entirely possible I have a completely fictional alternate Iron Man 3 movie playing non-stop somewhere in my subconscious.
