May-July are the really big months of the Summer movie season, why completely avoid it??
If anything makes me think they don't have a ton of confidence in some of their films, it's that
I just think they're moving them away from some other big name films. In May, there's Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which may be why CA: TWS is releasing before them. Late June has Transformers 4 and mid-July has X-Men: Days of Future Past so I'm thinking that's why Guardians of the Galaxy is dropping in August.

yeah but those are some big gaps, they could fit em in

early June, boom Cap
late July, Guardians

August is where bad summer movies go to die
Each movie doesn't need it's own month

Planet of the Apes broke out on the Guardians date

They seem to not want to release two movies in the same quarter anymore, and they obviously want all of the movies available on home media when the Avengers 2 trailer drops in late 2014

So stake out the big spring tentpole ala Hunger Games, and close out the summer

GOTG can't have the late July spot as X-Men already has it

Saw this retweeted by MarvelFreshman on twitter today. Did they already begin filming?

Considering the person who posted that goes to Cleveland State and a lot of CA:TWS is going to be filming in Cleveland, I'd say they may be doing some initial stuff.

I'd be willing to bet it has more to do with Disney's release schedule than with yielding to the "competition."

In 2014, Disney's got the choice-cut real estate for May/Memorial Day with The Good Dinosaur; Maleficent for 4th of July weekend; and Tomorrowland for Christmas holiday. There's similar situations in Disney/Pixar's lineups vs. Marvel Studios' lineups in 2013 and 2015. Disney movies are higher in the pecking order than Marvel movies.

I do kind of think that those Disney movies are pushing the Marvel movies out of the prime slots. Disney knows they can probably get away with putting certain Marvel properties in non-traditional blockbuster slots but can't with their original, non-franchise films.

When they start adding Star Wars movies to the mix that might make it even more interesting

Yeah there's alot of discussion in the SW section on where to place Episode 7. Half of the people want the traditional May spot, while the other half wants December.

I think releasing bigger movies in the winter might be a good idea for Marvel. Seeing how well Thor: TDW does is going to be interesting.

i hope filming starts soon. Then the film can come out by next summer. I wonder will the film bother with fleshing out Cap's assimilation into 21st century life.. it was taken rather matter of factly in Avengers.

CA: TWS comes out on April 4, 2013. If they're starting filming next month they'll be right on schedule. IM3 began filming in May 2012 and will be out at the end of April, so Marvel seems to allot about a year from the start of principal photography to the premiere of a film.

Steve's assimilation into this century wasn't taken for granted at all in The Avengers, at least in my opinion. The film didn't focus on it as much as Whedon originally planned, but Steve's unfamiliarity with technology and current terminology was shown in subtle ways. Had they left the deleted scenes with Steve in New York in the film his plight as a melancholy man out of time would have been clearer.

The movie does establish that Steve is having trouble, but doesn't really go into dealing with that. In the beginning, he's sad, but he has an adventure with the Avengers and he's happy.

It wasn't quite glossing over, but only not quite.

I hope they make a proper go of it this time. Show Steve confronting a degree of societal changes. To the world, America is perceived differently now than it used to be, and within the US, the perception of the armed forces has also changed, and that's the kind of stuff (perhaps not specifically) that I'd like to see. Not jokes about how Steve doesn't know what palates are.

Avengers had a ton of stuff to focus on, so it makes sense not to dwell too much into Steve's sturggling with today's world especially when he has his sequel(s) to develop that further. I think it was handled well in Avengers. They didn't ignore it, but at the same time, they didn't let it become Captain America and His Amazing Friends. I'm okay with this.

I don't think if we actually had a little more focus on Cap assimilating that it would have turned into Captain America and His Amazing Friends.

At least Cap assimilating is something we haven't seen yet. The movie Iron Man showed Tony willing to put himself on the line, and Iron Man 2 was all about him learning to play with others. Yet Whedon felt the urge to retread.

But whatever. It happened. Now for Captain America 2, I'd hope they actually make Cap assimilating a narrative priority.

He is just going all-out for this role. Previous tweets have him doing power lifting, boxing, Jui Jitsu, 5k runs, and knife training. Plus, it looks like his sons are hooked on Captain America as well.

I hope steve gets a cool motorbike to drive.
I wonder if they'll address his economic circumstances. Is he still considered active Army (lots of back pay while on ice)? SHIELD agent? Independent consultant like Stark? Hmm..

I'd think at least an honorary rank from the Army would be in order, even if Steve's not put back on active duty. His skillset may be outdated at 70 years old, but he's got a ton of real combat experience, in a war far bigger than anything going on in this century. The army would still want to use him for expertise in small unit tactics, for sure.

F**in Cleveland

No offense to the Ohians (ohio-ers?... Ohio-uns) in the crowd
But this movie needs to travel international
Cleveland can only fill in for so many places
You need that old world charm

For The Avengers, Cleavland filled in for India and Russia.

They're also filming in Washington DC and Los Angeles. I read somewhere that they'll do some shooting in an undisclosed European location. (I want o say Scotland)

eh, step in the right direction, but still not enough

and I believe New Mexico was India in Avengers
Cleveland was New York and Germany

Those scenes looked close, but still didn't have the feel of actually being there.
Everything was just a little too new and clean and colorful

Given the fact that this film is released next year in April, and before the sequel to the Amazing Spider-Man, shouldn't this have already started filming by now?
