They should just announce that Days of Future past is X-Men 4, thats why most of the cast of FC aren't coming back and that this is the start of the next trilogy! And they would release a new X-Men movie every 2 years!

a new trilogy announcement would create a huge hype, even if there will always be those Fox/Singer haters.

But with all the fans that have been asking for Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Beast, Gambit and co....

imagine how they would react if Fox announces now not only one movie with them, but TWO MORE! Lol

the net would get crazy!, I'd bet you on that

We all know If fox rebooted and tried to copy Disney/MS It would be based on Ultimate X-men.Since a lot of MCU Is based on Ultimate line.

The war between Disny/Marve studios and Fox Is causing me to go from being able to enjoy most marvel films to want to not to spend my time on any Disney films.

Others have said the avengers was based laregly on the Ultimates.

Iron Man-Tony STark based on ultimate version,Nick Fury totatally based on Ultimate version
The Incredible Hulk-My favorate sole filmOrigin based In part on Ultimate version.Betty Ross based In part on ultimate version
Iron Man 2-Tony Stark,Black Widow based on ultimate versions
Thor-Thor with people thinking he's crazy loosly based on Ultimate version.Hawkeye and Nick Fury based on ultimate version
Captain America-616 costume treated as joke while ultimate costume gets big treatment.Nick Fury based on Ultimate version
The Avengers-Tony Stark,Black Widow,Hawkeye,Nick Fury based on Ultimate versions as are outfits.

Not to mention banner In The Avengers Is basiclly David Banner from Hulk TV show.

If people don't think Xavier,Magneto, and Wolverine wouldn't be major characters In reboot they are fooling themselves. After DOFP you have chance for more nonmagneto villains and you want to go back to drawing board.

And do I have to remind people the Amazing SPider-Man was lowest grossing spider-Man film.Even the much decreyay Spider-Man 3.You could have an entire new team and reboot and have a film that grosses like first Class and not X2 and last stand.

A new trilogy announcement (Star Wars did it this year) would be enough for me. I also hope they will announce how long the gaps are. Since X3 was released, FOX never had a solid plan, but if this announcement of the new trilogy happens, it would change things and FOX would look good to the eyes of the fans who cares about this movie series. It would look like they know what they want to do with the series.

I said this before and I will say it again, First Class and the spin-off movies are just not as exciting and as appealing compare to the original cast. So they should just continue making X-Men movies with the original cast. It worked very well with the Fast/Furious series and it will definitely work with the X-Men series especially if the movies that they produce are really good.

totally agree with most of your points.

At the same time, I think a FC series can still be epic and really special, but that would mean to introduce new young actors to general audience as fan favourites Cyclops, Jean and Storm, and they still couldnt use other fan favourites like Nightcrawler, Rogue, Gambit or Colossus.

So if they want to go really big, X4/5 would be their wildest card.

They can still make a third FC movie, for sure! thats not the issue.

The issue is to think BIG after DOFP, and full original cast back IS the biggest card.

They can always eventully recast like the james bond films used to be.Kevin Feige said sooner or later they will recast Tony Stark as the character will still be In their films even after Robert Downey JR leaves.Of course he may do an avengers sequel and possibly Iron Man 4 first.

More like their safest card.

FOX already used their wild cards when they decided to create these spin-off and prequel movies that featured a brand new cast (except for 1 or 2).

The spinnoffs are about the same characters. And only one was bad.

The only wild card was FC, because of its setting and roster. A Wolverine film should be a given.

I don't see Fox wanting to waste two tentpole films by rebooting anytime soon. Hugh Jackman is there entire Marvel universe. Any team up film for Fox loses all impact without him.

smaller spin-offs arent the wild card at all.

A big team movie with the core characters will always be a wilder card than a prequel, even if its about Wolverine, or about Charles and Erik.

The core x-men are the core x-men. And the original cast is impressive, even if fans dont like certain choices, but the full cast together is really impressive, so it would take them many years to top it with another cast.

Not really, the main cast is a sure thing hit and have never been proven otherwise.

A wild card is more like Deadpool or a Gambit film. Something new not connected to the OT that Fox would be taking somewhat of a risk on. Expecially Deadpool with its R rating.

so maybe I had a wrong idea about what a wild card meant.

I thought it was something huge a studio could have in store that they could announce/do as something that almost everyone didnt expect, but at the same time being something huge they wanted since many years ago.

For example: fans wanted a long series after X2, and even after X3, fans wanted X4 too, with Cyclops, Kurt and company. but after all these years, the Wolverine movie and First Class, most fans lost hope on X4, so if Fox announced it now, that would be their "wild card", their 'final' best card to Win the full game.

That's how I understood the wild card, at least, lol.

The last big card to make you win the game. Feels logic at lest

A wildcard is unpredictable. Like Deadpool. A reboot would be unexpected. Everyone expects Fox to keep making these main big X Films. Especially now that everyone is back.

In cards a fully wildcard can be used as any.

I think this announcement should happen after the Wolverine is released in July. Next week, we will probably discuss the 1st trailer for the Wolverine and right now, I think The Wolverine needs to have more hype. So they should save this announcement once The Wolverine is released in the theaters and when we already know how The Wolverine ends.

Assuming Mark Miller isn't full of it, I actually think the announcement will be Fantastic Four related and not X-Men related. That said, I agree with Lightning that a reboot will happen sooner than later, BUT I don't think that is what the announcement is going to be about and for a couple reasons.

1. It is a less than smart PR move to announce a reboot, and begin speculation about new cast, crew, etc., while still trying to promote The Wolverine and Days of Future Past. Fox would simply be hurting its investments by needlessly diverting attention away from them. It's unnecessary property cannibalism, for lack of a better term.

2. It is a poor business decision to announce a reboot before knowing the financial outcome of two of the studio's major investments, especially Days of Future Past. Money talks, so why not see what audiences have to say first?

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I will laugh if the announcement is that Days of Future Past is being split into two movies... but surely not?

HOPE First Class 3, X4/X5 in development or to be released after First Class 3.

THINK Shared Universe of some sort with Fantastic Four; X4 is being released after Days of Future Past

Deadpool was put on the backburner as soon as they saw the modest box office of First Class and the amazing box office of Avengers. Like any business, they want some of that Avengers success. This is what Hollywood execs are like (as welll as execs in other areas of business) - they see something do amazingly well and they want to replicate it.

In order for Deadpool to be R-rated, it would have to be made on a small budget so it would still be profitable. I don't know if they are able to make a low-budget X-movie.

You hit the nail on the head. They're not going to announce a reboot while they still have 2 high profile properties coming out.

Studios hardly ever 'announce' anything these days. The last Fox announcement on its superhero properties was the press release on Mark Millar being hired, if I recall correctly. Of course we now have Singer announcing casting via Twitter, so that's changed the way news is coming out.

But you're right that they will hardly reveal a reboot is on the cards while they have The Wolverine and DoFP on the horizon.

I think it will be FF related. Not casting, but some details about how the reboot will be structured, and what the overall picture is in terms of where it fits in.

As far as X-Men, I think a reboot is a given down the line, although I wouldn't think it is in the cards right now. I think they pick up where First Class left off. It could simply be an announcement of a FC sequel to complete the trilogy.

DoFP into two movies? LONG, long shot. The budget would be crippling. X-4/5 after DoFP? Another budget killer. Although, if Singer is on board long term, and if they are intent of bringing back the rest of the original cast, I can see them shooting two movies/sequels back to back, but I think we need to wait until after DoFP comes out before they make that decision. That's the only way it'd be worthwhile reuniting the original cast; have them take on Apocaplypse or Onslaught, someone like that. I give that possibility less than 2% chance of happening, but those odds can rise depending on the success of DoFP.

So I'm going to go with plans for FF, and possible an announcement for FC 3, which potentially leads into the X-Men reboot with a brand new cast. I wouldn't call it a reboot, but an extension of the X-Men series.

I'm sure X-Men will be rebooted at some point in the future, but it won't be any time soon. Especially not with The Wolverine and Days of Future Past coming.

If anything, the Fantastic Four reboot will be developed to fit within the X-Men universe Fox have developed for over a decade. I doubt Singer would be tweeting (positively) about his conversations with Millar if the grand plan at Fox was to reboot the X-Men universe he created and ignore the movie he is currently working on.

Quote:
Completely new (and younger) cast that can interact not only with new FOX properties (like the aforementioned new FF) but also be on par with what's going on in MCU.
They already have a new young cast with McAvoy, Fassbender, Hoult and Lawrence. Add young versions of Storm, Jean and Cyclops and we have a fresh team who can crossover into the Fantastic Four if needed.

With First Class, Singer and Vaughn were brought on to spearhead a dying franchise in a fresh new direction.

Millar was then hired as a consultant to help expand the Fox/Marvel universe with X-Men and Fantastic Four. Their goal is to create a unified world.

Bryan is directing DoFP, bringing in many from the original trilogy and using the film as a way to "fix things" from other films in this franchise that may have taken a bad turn.

None of that spells reboot to me. At least not in the immediate future. Maybe in another 10 years...

At this point the closest we'll get to a reboot is whatever new timeline is created after the events of DoFP. That will likely be the free and fresh start the series will get. But that's still not a complete reboot as it will likely still carry the themes and characters (and actors!) Singer and Vaughn put into place.
