Maybe because the Russo Brothers' *entire* repertoire has been comedy up to this point....?

The simple fact remains that they are entirely untested when it comes to drama. They may turn out to be great at it, or they may turn out to be awful at it. One thing is not debatable: the Russos have no *experience* with drama. So it remains to be seen how they handle this.

Well you guys are crazy if you don't think this movie will still have those comedic moments that were in all marvel movies before.

Of course there will be.

But the overall mood will be darker than the upbeat, swashbuckling adventure romp that was the last one.

Marvel Surprise: Robert Redford In Talks To Star In ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’

Quote:
EXCLUSIVE: Here is a fun Marvel scoop. I’m hearing that Robert Redford is in discussions to join the cast of Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger, the sequel that brings Chris Evans back as the shield-carrying superhero. Redford is in talks to play a senior leadership role in S.H.I.E.L.D., the superhero collective run by Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury character. Joe and Anthony Russo are directing the film from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, whose Marvel script credits include Captain America: The First Avenger and the upcoming Thor: The Dark World. The sequel will be released by Disney April 4, 2014.

In between running his Sundance empire, Redford most recently starred in All Is Lost, the J.C. Chandor-scripted and directed survival tale. While Marvel was predictably mum as Kevin Feige’s unit always is on casting matters, Marvel characters have a tendency to show up in other superhero movies, and I believe that is likely to be on the menu for Redford. It will be somewhat ironic for the patriarch of independent cinema to become a regular in some of Hollywood’s biggest studio blockbusters. Redford’s repped by WME.

Be a hell of a coup if they get Robert Redford as he is a legendary actor and director. Be awesome if he was classic Nick Fury but I doubt it as it would be sort of redundant.

I wonder if William Sadler will making a apperance in seeing as he is MCU president of the united states.

Somewhat fitting as Redford would have been a perfect Steve Rogers back in the day.

Yeah it's me and Bob from back when we were hanging out in LA. I just cropped myself out since that'd be too much combined sexy for the internet to handle.

Redford in a Marvel movie? I think this pretty much trumps every other casting choice in other Marvel flicks so far. And if you don't think so you're probably still on yer mama's teat.

Yeah, my mind is blown. Very excited about the possibilities, especially given the style of the movie is going to be along the lines of a political/spy thriller.

I'd rather him as a Dum Dum Dugan type...

I love Robert Redford, sure... But I feel like they need to commit to SLJ now and Redford WOULD kinda upstage SLJ pretty effortlessly...

Anthony Hopkins
Tommy Lee Jones
Jeff Bridges
Ben Kingsley

..and now Robert Redford.

Not bad, Marvel.

At least three of those initial four aren't really hard to get, so long as you're willing to pay them.

I wonder if Redford's character is going to have been involved with Winter Soldier investigations in the past, or something like that.

Yes he would, and that's what kind of makes it sad that he could be in this movie, just not as Steve Rogers. He'd be a more perfect fit than Evans. But he's too old now. Maybe he could've played Steve's dad in a flashback.

But great that he could be joining the movie. That is a huge name to get for one of these Marvel movies. I just hope he doesn't turn out to be a villain.

Maybe the Council is pissed at Fury after working against them in Avengers (despite him being right) and there will be a power struggle in Shield....part of the whole...political thriller
