I don't think there is a need to race swap characters when there's already some of any given race available, for instance:

African American
Cyborg
Vixen
Martian Manhunter
Green Lantern (John Stewart)
Black Lightning
Firestorm (Jason Rusch)

Latinos
Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes)
Fire
Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner)
Vibe
The Atom (Rhonda Pineda)
Aztek

Asians
The Atom (Ryan Choi)
Katana
OMAC
Doctor Light (Kimiyo Hoshi)

I'm wondering if we'll ever see Black Lightning on the big screen after Jamie Foxx debuts as Electro in next year's TASM2.

If they could make one for less than $40 million, maybe.

Not for his own movie, but in a DCU movie. Maybe a JL movie or some other team down the line.

If Iron Man is a C-string superhero; then Cyborg is an F.
Manhunter is a character that has been race swapped.
I want to see a major character played on screen by a black (or multiracial) American as a black (or multiracial) American-- not hidden under prosthetics and green paint.

Backlash from who? If the creators don't have a problem people need to get over it.

i think the best characters that lead themselves to non-caucasian casting are:
Wonder Woman - Greek/Mediteranian exotic look, olive skin etc
Aquaman - Spanish/Latin American, with blonde hair and dark eyebrows for contrast, to hint through childhood that something is not quite right and he's "different".
Tom Curry being the latin influence, and the Atlantian/Homo Magi DNA cause his hair to appear bleached/blonde.
Or maybe the Latin look comes from Atlantian descent.

Green Lantern - easy to explain, many different human GLs
Martian Manhunter - shapeshifter, "human" John could look like anyone

Hawkman/woman (Thanagar versions) - aliens, could look like anything.

Zatanna - hint of Asian, maybe Sindella is of Asian descent

Both Wonder Woman and Aquaman could be mediterranean caucasian looking, both are supposed to be of Greek civilisations (AFAIR).

John Jones has been black several times and is again.

The GL's are already diverse.

Flashes will stay white, as will the big two.

Or we could cast based on acting ability rather than trying to cater to social issues. Seeking out a certain race for a role is pure nonsense.

That said, if an Eastern Indian actor tries out for Aquaman and does an amazing job, why not? As people have said already, things with some of these fantasy and sci-fi characters, there's nothing to say that they have to look any particular way.

But Batman and Superman will undoubtedly stay as originally portrayed for a very long time. Maybe forever. And that's absolutely fine as long as they continue to seek out real talent for the roles.

Of course that's the best policy. However, and I sure hope this doesn't end up on Cracked, I do think there are several heroes who are just too iconic to have their races changed, and I think those largely boil down to those who appeared on things like "Superfriends".

the idea is too widen the field with non white casting not narrow it. If a white actor gives the best audition then cast them
if a greek actor gives the best audition then cast them.

all things within reason though

I wouldn't mind the Rock as Captain Marvel but I think he'd be even better as Black Adam. As for Idris Elba,I would love to see him as Owlman if they ever used the Cryme Syndicate. Ultimately, the best actor for each role. I don't want to see the actor as much as I want to believe they are the character they're portraying.

That Hawkwoman race swap takes my breath away! Really cool stuff, would love to see her in JL.

I feel that the easiest way to diversify the Justice League without making heads roll is by using John Stewart instead of Hal Jordan. And after the 2011 movie, it's almost a no-brainer (I also think that the GA would be more familiar with John because of the JL cartoon). I also agree with what people are saying about Aquaman and Wonder Woman.

Im dying to see Elba as GL. People will shut up when they see a badass Stewart up there with Cavill's Superman and the rest.

But I have to say, it would also be pretty damn cool to see a new Hal in the first then bring John into the sequel. In between the 2 Justice League's, launch a Stewart centric Green Lantern movie set in space. Give Hal a role in that too.

or even have Reynolds cameo as Stewart's trainer.

sure GL wasn't the best movie, but there is so much to salvage for a DCCU:
DEO
Amanda Waller
Sinestro

just have it set before MOS, he had a couple public appearances then disappeared into space, if you wanna bring Hal back you could have him be jealous of superman because he feels he was the first modern superhero.

Totally.

I can see Wonder Woman especially being played by an actress of Mediterranean/Latin/Hispanic descendent. Make her looks exotic.

There's no way it's connected especially because that whole battle couldn't have happened before MOS and Waller even says it was first alien contact or something to that effect. That's a contradiction to MOS.

Also the jealousy thing sounds like it would come off like childish behavior, especially from Reynolds. I don't really want to see that.

There's no need for an Amanda Waller character going into JL. I don't want general audiences thinking of Nick Fury in any way. JL doesn't need a setup character like that.

Technically, I think she said it's the first proof of alien life. That could still be true whilst Man of Steel is first contact, considering Abin Sur was dead and all.

seems like a waste, i hate to waste things lol

jealousy is not childish, we all get jealous, pretty much everyday. Writing it as childish would make it childish.

not really a contradiction, maybe people thought it was magic or metahumans, and there is a history of government agencies not communicating with each other and hiding things. Superman would be the first publicly confirmed alien.

i'm not married to my idea, just thought i'd bring it up. But it does seem like a waste lol

Meh, I just don't like it. The tones are completely opposite from one another. They need to reboot the character and at this point I think it's kind of obvious they will.

Here is an interesting article about how Warner has an advantage in the potential diversity of their universe.

Don't change the race of a character just for the sake of saying you inserted additional diversity into your movie... Do it only if the best actor for the role is of a different race.

For example, casting Denzel Washington as Lex Luthor. You would do that because he would be great for the role, not just to change make the race more diverse. If Dwayne Johnson if the best option for Shazam and would give the role his all, cast him. But don't do it for the sole reason of injecting diversity.

On the other side, changing to a pre-established, alternate version of the character for the sake of diversity is ok. In this case, removing Hal Jordan and using John Stewart as Green Lantern is acceptable.

Only trouble is John Stewart is awful. I'd rather WB (if they're going to focus on racial diversity) make a Green Lantern Corps series and introduce all the human GL's.
