I think they're all suits that Stark can control via either the Extremis virus or JARVIS. I tend to believe the rumors that Stark changes his armor in the final battle at least 3 times, meaning that the suits are all functional enough for him to wear.

It fits Starks storyline progression; after the invasion in Avengers and finally realizing his feelings for Pepper, Tony goes overboard and builds multiple suits for every scenario.

He even says in one of the trailers that he only cares about protecting the one thing in this world he cant live without.

That being Pepper, which is why when his house is attacked he "tells" the Mk42 to protect her instead of himself.

Yeah, I don't have a problem with having that many suits in the movie. I mean, why would Stark build one or two suits at a time, when he has the resource to build multiple suits? It also honors the comics by having Stark build a suit for every occasion and situation, and at least the audience can see the true brilliance of Tony Stark. Seriously, seeing all those suits is giving me quite a bit of a geek-gasm, and I hope they would release all the suits together as a toy collectible because I want to own every one of them.

I know most people would go bankrupt if HotToys released every version of the armors in the movie at $200+ a pop

No, I didn't say that a hated the idea of Stark going overboard with the armors after what happen in The Avengers.

I meant that I wish Marvel didnt have him have 42 armors in this one all at once, which is too much.
20-25 sounds more reasonable for the Iron Legion. That'd make it 13-18 new armors in the film, instead of 35 all at once.

It also seems like a cheap way to push out all these armors and comic book based armors all at once to make a big Hall of Armor as fast as possible.

Idk

Feige and Black have said that after the Battle of New York, Tony basically suffers from PTSD and becomes obsessed with the need to create as many suits of armor as possible. Tony knows now that there are more powerful beings out there, and he's been to outer space. He wants to have the armor at his disposal at all times. So he holes himself up in his workshop and builds armor nonstop until the Mandarin's attacks force him out of his home.

That pretty much explains why Tony has such a large number of suits in IM3. It's part of his character arc as well as a marketing angle.

I didn't like the original because it looked too much like Juggarnaut

Again, I never said I didn't know why he built so many armors.........jeez

I know this all already.

All I said was that the Iron Legion seems bigger than I should be.

What is your rationale for it being smaller?

The original did indeed resemble the Juggernaut. I think it looked great but agree to disagree. This one looks like a turtle though.

So I guess they are stopping at 6?

We only know the names/functions/mark numbers of 14 armors. Whats the deal?

The way you phrased your objections sounded like you had no clue why Tony built his armors. How is the number of suits "bigger than it should be"? The writers chose to have 42 suits, but you arbitrarily want to lower the number for no particular reason other than that you don't like it.

Meh, whatever
42 just seems a but excessive, unless, they really had 34 really good designs going on between 7 and 42 they really wanted to use right away, since they are aparrently treating this as the last solo film for Iron Man.

This seems like a strain on the merchandising for the film, seeing as Hasbro has to drastically lower the quality of their stuff to compensate releasing 35+ new armor figures, which will self warm anyway, due to the quality of the products.
There's also the mess that Hot Toys collectors are getting themselves into xD

How do you unlock more armors? Or are they unlocked as time goes?

Is there any article that makes explicit the exact power upgrades from mark to mark? Would be really helpful.
