Well she has considerable connections to Wolverine in the comic as well as her Madame Hydra notoriety. Both have big potential in either franchises.

If only we could all heal as fast as Logan.

Mangold is still the chief reason I have any hope for this film. He's no genius but he's a solid craftsman-like director.

Same here. In Mangold we trust.

She's plenty dangerous in the comics without turning her into a completely different character. At his point all the only similarities are they share a name and both wear green.

It took me a couple minutes to correlate the skin shedding with Viper. I'm losing my touch.

Sorry my disappointment troubles you so.

I haven't seen the film yet, so I'm not able to say for sure. By by all indications she has only superficial similarities to Viper from the comics.

I've said before I try to view the films as a separate continuity, and just like a lot of Ultimate characters had different takes so do the film versions. I'm open to new interpretations and if it turns out to be a cool one, great. But from what I've seen so far, this version is a snake-powered scientist, and that's a pretty far cry from the non-powered but highly trained terrorist and criminal leader that I like from the comics and had hoped to see. Hopefully Marvel can use a more accurate Madame Hydra version sometime down the road.

I love Viper from the comics, but it doesn't mean I can't embrace a different interpretation. It's more about keeping the feel of a character that is important for me.

I feel the same way. I can't really get excited for this Madame Hydra because it's not really the same character at all.

So, being a huge fan of the original Claremont/Miller mini-series, I have to ask this question:

Is anyone concerned about Shingin? Shingin was the main antagonist in that arc, and one of my favorite foils for Wolverine in general. The emotional and physical ways in which he hurt Wolverine were great, and it's something I've wanted to see translated to film for a very long time.

I was expecting him to be the main baddie in this film, the Emperor to the Silver Samurai's Darth Vader if you will. However, after everything we've seen, including the trailers, I'm starting to think that Shingin will be more of a side character and Viper/SS will be the main villains, which is something that would be very disappointing to me.

Does anybody else feel the same?

This is true. It's just that we really haven't heard anything about Shingin thus far. And they certainly seem to be playing up Viper and the whole not being able to heal thing as the main conflicts of the story.

And the thing that I loved most about this mini was that it really dug deep into Wolverine's struggle against his inner beast, and his own self-loathing. And Shingin was the one that brought him to his all time low. It was a very personal story, and that's what made it so powerful. I'm just afraid they're ignoring that in favor of more flashy material.

Hugh in an interview released today from MTV even states that nothing is what it appears up until the last frame of the film. So like Project said it's probably a lot trickier than it appears.

I certainly hope so. The battle between his humanity and animalistic nature is the backbone of the original mini, and Shingen is the true representation of that struggle to Wolverine. Shingen's complete dismantling of Wolverine, and Wolverine's subsequent rise and return to challenge him is the focus of that story, and I'd love to see it done well on film.

I mean, how badass would it be to see their first fight where Shingen beats the crap out of Wolverine with bokan? Or their final fight?

"Shingen! Am I worthy now?"
"That, Gaijin...remains to be seen!"

I have a feeling and I've mentioned it elsewhere, that whoever that Japanese guy is, his company and Viper will have some kind of tie to the Sentinels for DOFP...
The super sleek Silver Samurai looks mechanical almost...like after regular SS fights Logan and loses sorta, he'll enter a mech-type SS suit or something. His company seems super powerful as he says. Also, I have a feeling they'll address X3 by saying Logan's healing factor is too strong for the cure to work. The cure attempts to cure but his healing factor beats it. Hence why he still thinks it's impossible.

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:

Looks big, doesn't look just like a suit closer to the camera. Why would a regular sized suit be hanging so high up in such a futuristic type facility?

After finally reading the story, it would really be a shame if he's nothing more than an old guy trying to do good. I really hope he uses Logan's healing factor to get back his youth and tries to screw him over.

Pretty much agreed.

I don't need or even want for the movie to copy the plot of the comic book. What's more important to me is to capture the spirit of it. I want Logan's struggle with his own humanity, his loss of self respect and him rising from it. I want the heart of the love story etc.

So is the old guy on the bed supposed to be a older Shingen and then after he takes Wolverine's healing ability he becomes the Shingen played by Hiroyuki Sanada?
