Quit lowballing, sam. We're talking AT LEAST one hundred dollars here, maybe even two hundred dollars.

Well, he's officially playing "a high ranking person in the SHIELD organization named Pierce." And Marvel has characterized his role as similar to Ralph Fiennes' "New M" in Skyfall.
That's pretty much all we really know at this point.

It would be interesting if he was Nick Fury's predecessor. Perhaps he's a high ranking SHIELD commander (possibly even one of the founders) in WW2 and sends Cap on a mission? Presuming we're still getting WW2 flashbacks.
I think if he's a high ranking SHIELD commander in modern day then it would make me question Sam Jackon's role in the movie. Wouldn't he be a M-like figure to Cap in the modern day era? I mean if he were to defer to a subordinate to relay missions to Cap then wouldn't Fury simply have Maria Hill do that? Plus I don't see Redford simply playing a subordinate to Fury. |

I don't know, since we don't have a main villain cast yet, only a couple of henchmen, and MS tends to cast the biggest names in villain roles most of the time, I could see Redford as a former SHIELD agent going rogue somwhere. Or maybe a Gyrichesque character

I agree with Gibson. Cruise on the other hand was never likable nor good in anything I've seen him so his disturbing weirdness is harder to forgive.

And I hope Redford does have a significant part and not just a cameo. Who cares about his political views? I certainly hope Evans gets the chance to act opposite Redford and that it isn't just SLJ that RR is interacting with. Now if Kristin Scott Thomas came onboard, Redford and ScarJo just need to find one of these: ![]()

Other movies with a stellar Cruise: Collateral, Rain Man, Eyes Wide Shut, Tropic Thunder, Born on the Fourth of July etc. He is also very solid and engaging in the straight action lead role. I too am quite put off by him as a public person, but I will never get why some people don't like him as an actor. And from what I have experienced he gets most of his hate domestically. Here in europe I feel he is very loved as an actor. But I digress. Redford is awesome and I think it's damn cool when old cool hollywood cats like him take roles in superhero movies. |

Yes, he was perfectly cast as the unlikable as$hole, I agree with that. but this is one single performance that stands out of a lot of crappy ones like

I agree. He might be the most awesome actor in a superhero movie ever. His casting alone made Cap 2 the most anticipated Phase 2 movie for me and I'm a huge Thor fan

This says a lot on how the script must be to get a legend like Robert Redford In It.He's not
someone who does films for paycheck. This also says Kevin Feige wasn't BSing when he called this a Political Thriller. |

He's playing "Robert Redford", a socialist liberal who thinks the Avengers infringe on our personal liberties.

I thought the suggestion someone made in the other thread of Col. Rick Stone made sense to me. Or he's an original character.

Redford said he is playing the head of SHIELD.
I wonder if he meant A head of SHIELD or THE head of SHIELD. Because there's a difference.
