I really hope they focus more on the family dynamics this time round. What is so vital to the FF is that it is character orientated rather than plot or power orientated. Idk if that makes sense but I'd like a movie where they aren't just 'superheroes' but more so 'people who happened to gain super powers'

I just hope they tackle the family dynamic from a more serious perspective.
The first one was essentially the sitcom family from any 90s series. Wacky hijinks ensue when 4 strangers are locked in a building.

Take something like FX's the Americans which parallels trust in a fake marriage with the world of spying. I want them to do something about how we create our own families in a 21st century world and parallel that to science.

That's generally how most films work.

We knew all of that the first time around before we knew the cast....we didn't know the full cast until right before ComicCon 2004....and they started filming that Fall....

Release date yes... But they usually don't plan a start date before the cast. That means they care more about getting the film out on their schedule rather then negotiating with the cast they want. Yes some movies work that way, but others don't pick the start date till at least the stars are picked out because of their scheduling.

To me this shows they care more about fast tracking the film and hoping for the best rather than focusing on actors they already would love to have in the role

Doing things the same as the first film isn't exactly a good thing....

Any chance of having an older Reed and Sue this time around?

just because we havent heard "in talks" posts doesn't mean a thing

Always a chance, but I wouldn't bet on it. You know how Hollywood rolls.

As for setting the date before casting, other studios have done that with Ant-Man as well as Jurassic Park 4 (and probably many more). I'm not surprised by Fox putting their foot down on a release date in conflict with the creative end of movie-making (see: X3).

In my experience they do seem to do it more so though when they're more lenient with getting the cast though. I think ant-man for instance is a pretty flexible role (i think alto of people can play him well)

Jp4 is intriguing though because you'd think for the legacy they have.... Maybe they'd be sure they could get some former cast members to return? Unless its like a ghost date where they're fine with adjusting everything later but just want a ballpark date right now

That's true. Marvel did eventually adjust its initial Phase One schedule a bit after they first announced it in May 2008. I would liken the JP4 thing to the announced Star Wars Episode VII in 2015, but they targeted a date for JP4 that's just so soon...

You're probably right.

Just seen that Patrick Wilson as Reed shout on the previous page, that and Cumberbatch at Doom is inspired [even though I think BC would make a brilliant Dr.Strange also].

I really don't understand how you get that. ALL films start pre-production before a cast is 100% locked. Look at GoTG, the first Cap film, or First Class.

And with the film still over 2 years away, they have plenty of time and nothing needs to be "fast tracked".

Maybe if the film was coming out in 2014, I'd agree with you, but at this point, no one is rushing to meet any release date. They have more than enough breathing room.

Uh, a lot of movies do that. I'm pretty sure directors would love to have the actors locked in before a start date, but things change. Studios find it more convenient having it the other way. If they lock the actors before a start date, it might clash with other projects the actors are committed to (and they'll have to bow out).

And how are they fast-tracking it exactly? It's been in the works for several years, and only until last summer were they able to get a director and script they're comfortable with. I think you're worrying too much... this is a new era at Fox. Plus with Josh Trank and Matthew Vaughn behind it, it's going to attract the right kind of talent.

I don't think you'll have to worry like someone like Jessica Alba being cast as Sue Storm again...
