He's in a lot of Tyler Perry type stuff that's all. Elba did his Perry stint for one film and left it alone.

He's most likely going to be in Avengers 2 first anyway, there's no way the movie would be DOA coming off of that giant no matter who is cast in the role.

Exactly. That's why Hank Pym should be in TA2 before Ant-Man.

Your direct words were: "Eh, who knows. No one they've cast in their other movies was super popular. Hemsworth was unknown to most people."

By uttering "popular" and "unknown" in the same response, clearly you draw a parallel between the two. Regardless, I listed plenty of popular names who've been in the MCU already.

The point is they won't have to cast an unknown, particularly from a budget stand point because this movie will not feature your scattered few A-list black actors as the lead. Terry already illustrated this. Yet, there a few who've been around a bit who are recognizable names.

The bold part could be said for just about every black actor within a certain age range.
Yes, but not every black actor within a certain age range meets some of the conditions Chestnut brings to the table.

Even saying he's "popular" among "most" black people is going too far. People my age remember him from Boyz N The Hood and The Best Man. Younger black people probably give less than a damn about him.
Ahhh so you polled all the youngins. Got it.

Bingo.

Marvel scored unbelievable clout with the Avengers. I'm getting a sense that IM3 is going to more than continue that.

No, clearly you drew that parallel. To (unnecessarily & ridiculously) break it down:

#1: You implied that the popularity of the actor would factor into who they cast. I said "who knows", because to me popularity didn't seem to factor into their previous casting decisions of a lead character. Iron Man is what revived RDJ's career, so it's not like he was so "popular" at the time. Evans...nuff said.

#2: I further went to say that they might even go for an unknown like they did with Hemsworth.

Obviously we disagree that Chestnut brings so much to the table.

Quote:

Yup. Just like you polled what all women like. Also, I noticed you didn't ask Terry if he polled all of the black moviegoing crowd when he said how insanely popular Chestnut is.

I never liked Baby Geniuses, it was annoying to me, but not really that bad. This movie on the other hand was the worst movie I've ever seen.

Chestnut would make a much better Cage (though Henry Simmons would be even better).

If Panther is a possibility for Avengers 2, give his history in the Whedonverse, I'm surprised Joss isn't after Ejiofor.

All that said, if Chestnut isn't too old for their version of T'Challa, they should go get Djimon Hounsou. Tongayi Chirisa is still my guy if we were blessed with a full trilogy, but if the character is just dropping in already with the mantle and in his prime, Hounsou can still deliver, imho.

Oh, I'm sure Downey would be more than happy to continue in the role. He seems to enjoy playing Stark and comes across as grateful for the revitalization that the character has provided his career. I was just wondering if there had been an official announcement about a contract extension that I'm not remembering.

In that case no there hasn't been an official announcement of a contract extension just everyone saying pretty much RDJ isn't leaving the role right now

Yes, because it's true.

To say RDJ had a rocky private life is an understatment. He was by no means a "safe", cast and it was IM that made him a star.
Evans wasn't unknown but he was far from well known let alone an A-lister.

I'll give you Norton. Ruffalo was semi-well known at best. Scarlett, Renner & Jackson weren't the title characters in a solo film.

It absolutely isn't true. RDJ's and Evans had far more work in movies (particularly American movies) than Hemsworth. They also had reputations, mostly not so flattering (Evans the wisecracking pretty boy and RDJ the addict).

The argument isn't about "safe" ...... the argument is about the name recognition. Out of the entire cast we've had of the immediate members, Hemsworth was by far and away the least known among American audiences and somebody with a much shorter resume.

There was never any distinction made about leads.

What does any of that have to do with Hemsworth being an unknown?

We were talking about the potential lead in a Black Panther movie, and comparing it to the other marvel movies. It goes without saying that the leads were the subject.
