Yep. Cumberbatch is a big draw in the UK and other countries.

Its not really any different than the American posters which have been the same with a few more actor's faces.

I understand the strategy. I just find them boring and generic as hell. Which is what is needed to appeal to the global lowest common denominator.

They're trying to sell Star Trek by hiding the fact that its a Star Trek film. Very similar to de-emphasizing the fact that Captain America is Captain America.

Looking at that poster, a casual viewer wouldn't know that was supposed to be Cumberbatch. Paramount seems to be banking on Cumberbatch to lift the film in international markets, so one would expect them to make sure that the posters identify him to the audience. He's supposedly very popular OS due to BBC's Sherlock, though he isn't well known in the US.

Apparently their use of Cumberbatch as a draw is paying off. Apparently the IMAX ticket sites in the UK have been crashing all day today when tickets for this went on sale.

Cumberbatch is HUGE in the UK. Don't underestimate him at all. There's quite a craze around him.

Most of the posters haven't been very Trek-ish... until this one. Damn. Love this!

My first thought after seeing the new poster, was that it reminds me of the Iron Man 3 poster with Stark falling upside down.

So will they destroy the Enterprise already? Since it was revealed that there was indeed another Enterprise that was decommissioned a short time before the 09 film, will Kirk and co take over on an earlier Enterprise (Which is actually the more classic Constitution class vessel of the Prime universe)?
