I'm surprised they went with exposed ears on this helmet.

Sometimes the design choices they go with on Cap's costume really confuse me.

They get something right, and then tweak something else and make it not quite as right.

if that's true then the trade off simply was not worth it imo.

personally i don't see how the helmet he ended up with would be any more comfortable to act in than one with exposed ears and or a chin strap.

Yes this is pretty much it.

I'm also confused why in Avengers they gave the illusion of his cowl being fabric when he had it off. When it was clearly on it was some sort of plastic/hard material. Unless it was some Reed Richard unstable molecule experimental material that could soften like cloth when he wanted.

I'd go with this costume for the movie.

I didn't read any of this thread, yet, but I am guessing they could go
with his new costume in Marvel Now. The updated version looks like
it has a big movie inspired design.

Although, looking now I see something different.
Not sure why they would go with this:

Maybe it has to do with his covert Winter Soldier mission. They don't want
Captain America's face/image/name associated with this mission. Maybe.

Just based on the lighting and what we can see, it doesn't look like the new suit has the ab stripes at all. Still think we're going to be getting a couple suits, with one being the more common CA pattern.

It is an option seeing as how this is a fictional character and he can wear the same costume if they want him to.

With the exception of the chain-strap and armoured chest-plate and the color scheme in certain areas. That is The Avengers Cap Costume.

Looking at TA suit again, I still can't figure why there's the 2 zippers on each leg. They don't seem to be of any use.

I too am not a huge fan of the new costume. I do like it a tiny bit better than the Avengers suit but not by much. The new helmet looks good, but I don't like the exposed ears although I'm sure the comic book purists love that. All in all, the TFA suit is still #1 in my book, and none of the modern suits have even come close yet.

The exposed ears is my favorite thing about the Helmet personally, I dig the costume overall actually, and I believe in context to the film it will makes sense, but I wouldn't mind the old stars and stripes coming back at some point in the film. So far IM & Thor have multiple costumes(Thor has the one with the blue Cape covering him) so I'd imagine Cap will be the same way.

The cloth cowl wasn't a cowl, it's a coif - thin padding worn to improve comfort/help protect the skull when wearing tight-fitting helmets, much like this:

It was "attached" to the rest of the suit so that when fully geared up, he'd maintain the one-piece look from the comics.

We did. It was just an example of real life not matching perfection achieved in art. As a comic suit or simple illustration, I like The Avengers suit, but it's extremely awkward looking in real life - for me, the worst of it was the cowl. I much preferred the suit after he lost the cowl in the NY fight.

Overall, I thought CA:TFA suit was absolutely stellar. While I understand the need to make a "modern" suit, where TA faltered was in the overall design mentality - it was all form over function. The reason the CA:TFA suit looked so good is that function and authenticity were at the heart of the design - it actually looked like a soldier's outfit modified to fit Cap's aesthetic. Nearly all details in the suit supported that and looked like it had purpose. The Avenger's suit was nothing but a high-value cosplay suit in that it was all style, with little substance - I can just imagine the designers thinking:

"Oh, crap, this suit is all flash! Johnson! It's supposed to be a SHIELD suit, right? Throw some zippers on it, that'll make it look useful in combat!"

Now, before anyone flames me for this opinion, I'm not calling for bullet proof vests and rubber parts. Some characters can get away with simpler, more "comic style" suits, depending on the character themselves, the world in which they inhabit, or the overall quality of the original suit itself (Spidey is a perfect example, but even then, functionality was taken into account in some degree or another in ASM). I'm also not calling for Nolan-style "TEH REALIZMS!". There's a big difference between giving a suit design a "realistic" feel (ie: looking like it makes sense in OUR world), and making it look/feel like it has authenticity within the FILM'S world...The Avengers suit failed in that, while the CA:TFA succeeded, IMO.

I never complained about the TFA suit, and hey I also liked the Avengers suit (not as much) the new suit is cool too though. The way I see it the suits are going to change almost every movie so I don't get to hung up on it. I think I'm one of the few people who was okay with the Mark 42 armor in IM3.

I see what you are getting at but its not a coif. Look the wing designs are there. Why would his coif have wing designs on it?
