That was beautiful writing! He purposefully blew up the ship. This is what made me fall in love with Clint. He knew they were out-gunned and that there were more in that ship.
Bendis. is. awesome. And "Dissembled" was one of his best.

He's turrible.
And the fact that he's no longer writing most of the universe is why Marvel's back on top and kicking DC's arse quality-wise at the moment. Disclaimer: Although Dan Didio is doing his best to help out. Hell... the books Bendis IS writing now are amongst the mediocre titles at Marvel. And they weren't anywhere near out-gunned. Every living Avenger ever was on site, as well as the entire Fantastic Four, as well as Daredevil, as well as Nick Fury... it was a stupid, needless (eventually meaningless when they figured out that what appeared to be happening wasn't really going on) death.

I mean Moon Knight was there for God's sake. Prior to Secret Avengers as well, so they went so deep that they had a guy who was a WEST COAST AVENGER for just over a year back in the 80s. There was no need for Clint to do that. It was just dumb.
Yeah, I have trouble letting this stuff go. |

I like him on his X-men books
![]() I recently read Disassembled. I hated it for a lot of reasons. And I'm not even an Avengers fan.

It was a lame story. I understand it's purpose was to push the Avengers into a new era but reasoning was a retread. There had already been an evil Scarlet Witch story infinitely times better by John Byrne in West Coast Avengers.

So I have vol. 1 of Runaways (#1-18), but with my backlog still pretty large, I've yet to read them. ComiXology has now put vol. 2 (30 issues) on sale for $0.99 each (JUST TODAY). Is the entire vol. worth picking up? Thanks.

Issues 1-24 is absolutely worth it (Vaughn's run). Issues 25-30 was by Joss Whedon and I hear mediocre reviews on it. I only read the first issue and never got around to finishing his run. But the first 24 issues, God yes.

The first 24 are amazing. Joss Whedon's run is average, nothing special but not horrible. Worth the read.

I have to say I am a notorious Bendis hater, but he's knocking it out of the park on his X-Titles. Maybe its because I'm not as attached to the X-Men world as I am to the Avengers but I like what he's doing there. His GOTG run I'm only reading cause I heard Geiman is taking over soon. Anyway IMO the best titles at Marvel right now are both written by Rick Remender, Captain America and Uncanny Avengers. Captain America is a beautiful book with a really interesting story, Zola actually steps up his game and becomes a pretty terrifying villain. Uncanny Avengers started of a little rocky but now its in full swing and the story has me hooked. If anyone's read "The Dark Angel Saga" the current storyline is sort of a sequel to that.

Gaiman's only coming on to Guardians of the Galaxy as a co-writer with Bendis for an arc or two starting with issue 5 (I believe). He's not taking it over, though that would be amazing.

I am trying to decide which omnibus to purchase (or preorder); however, I cannot decide, as I torn equally between the selections. Does has any suggestions --- here are the choices:
-Thor, by Stan Lee, Vol 2. -Man Thing -Secret Warriors -New Avengers, Vol 1 I had first decided on the Thor by Simonson omnibus, but, it is out of circulation and double what it was on Amazon. Any suggestions would be appreciated, as I cannot decide, and it is somewhat frustrating.

I've not read Thor or Man Thing, so I can't comment on those, but New Avengers would be my pick. Secret Warriors was also really good and worth the purchase.

Man-Thing would be mine, but few are as big Gerber fanboys as myself.

![]() ![]() Do they have any from the Jurgens run on Thor? It's a bit more recent and just as awesome as Simonson's run. |

The Lee Thor stuff is pretty rough, to be honest, but they're good as far as cheesy Silver Age stories go. Of the ones you listed, I'd probably go with Secret Warriors. It's built on a shaky premise, but other than that it was a good series.

Thanks for the replies -- I really appreciate them. :-)
I've been wanting to purchase a Marvel omnibus for some time, but never had the money, until now; hence the indecisiveness. I also plan to pick up the Jurgens volumes as I have read recommendations & good reviews of them.

Jurgens' run is definitely worth it. The whole thing is great, but if you absolutely have to choose bits and pieces, I'd say go with the King Thor Saga, which starts in The Death of Odin TPB and runs through Lord of Asgard, Gods on Earth, Spiral, The Reigning, and Gods and Men. I'm hoping they'll release a nice, huge omnibus for it all someday, but it took them a pretty long time to even start re-releasing the trades, so who knows?

I was so frustrated. My local Half Priced Books had nearly all of the King Thor trades for $7-$10 each and I had no money to buy them and won't for the foreseeable future. Frustration!

Screw that, I'd head to a blood bank or sperm bank for the $$$. That's a deal and a half for those books.

Hey guys, just wanted to pop in and say thank you for the recommendations. I just bought Waid's DD vol 1 and it is the best thing I've read in years (which granted is not much, but it beats the pants off all of the DC stuff I tried recently) DD is finally not a mopey whipping boy! He's back to being roguish and swashbuckling. I love it. I've added the next three trades to my amazon list and I'll also be picking up the Hawkeye vol 1 due to y'alls rave reviews. At this rate, I may defect over to team Marvel...

Try Gambit too if you can. It flies right under the radar like DD does. It's a terrific book.
