Why? THOR made almost a 100 million more than Cap's film and do you honestly think a new film like GOTG will outgross Thor's sequel?

Thor's first film nearly grossed 500 million and was the 2nd highest gross for a non sequel solo film of Phase 1. All of this happened before the 1.5 billion dollar monster that was The Avenger, so Thor:TDW isn't going to do any less than 650-700 million.

Saying it won't do any less than 650M is kinda pushing it, it can definitely do more, but it could also do less than that. I don't think it'll do any less than $550M though.

Like I said, it's not going to do any less than 650 M and I stand by that.

Thor 2 will definitely make more money than Captain America 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy. Plus it has a better release date and its the next MCU movie after Iron Man 3.

Agreed. And, like BigThor, I too think this can get close to 700M. If it's great (I definitely think it will be) and with The Avengers momentum, the potential is there.
Phase II seems to be starting really well, with IM3 already tracking to open aroung 160m!

To make 700 million requires TTDW to get 250 million more than its predecessor. That's a very steep jump. 700 million WW seems to be the maximum IMO.

I'm going with a very optimistic 715m WW. If word of mouth is good and Avengers filmgoers all decide to follow up on the characters, I think it can really improve figures on the first one.

Great that the official trailer alone has already had almost 7 million views.

Yes it's a steep jump, but it's not that steep when think about Iron Man jumping from 623M to probably 1B with IM3.

That Avengers boost is gonna be something special and Thor with have that plus a boost from IM3. Not to mention Thor is gonna have not one but TWO main characters from a film that made 1.5 billion dollars.

If Iron Man 3 has big success financially and critically then I think it's safe to say Thor 2 will benefit from that and sort of follow up to that, and if Thor ends up having big success then The Winter Soldier will most likely benefit from that. And so on with GotG and Avengers 2. Especially since each film's trailer is attached to the movie preceding it.

I agree with this. TTDW will likely end up as Marvel Studios 3rd highest grossing film to date after TA and IM3. It'll probably do TASM numbers WW. $750M but as to the breakdown between DOM & OS all I know is that OS will be the larger of the two.

Iron Man was, along with Hulk, by far the most well received of the Avenger's cast. Further more, I think predictions saying Iron Man 3 will make 1 billion are off by 100 million...

It's on track to have a $160m+ OW. I have a hard time imagining the film NOT making a billion at this point. :/

That high. Dang, that's very impressive. And yeah, that does suggest it will easily surpass my prediction. Still, there have been several films that made 140m OW and fell far short of a billion. Heck, TDK made nearly 160m OW and it barely edged past a billion. So it's certainly not a sure thing.

Thats because Batman wasn't that popular yet in overseas. Iron Man is already popular in the international market.

Batman made nearly 470m over seas.... That seems quite popular to me. Furthermore, TDK had outstanding legs something IM2 did not...

With that said, having seen the new projection I have admitted I'm off. I just said it not making a billion is still a very real possibility.

^ I can agree it is a real possibility, but with such raving reception thus far, I think it will have the legs that IM2 did not.

As for Thor, I will say that this first trailer definitely did not grip me as much as the first Iron Man 3 trailer.

I'm curious as to how it will fair in comparison to skyfall, since they both have that early November release. It it can track close to what skyfall did, at least domestically it should do well.

And IM3 is already making a killing in the international BO; in some places making numbers comparable to those of The Avengers! The Avengers' factor is definitely into play.

Thor: TDW will make a killing too!

That's one reason I'm having trouble predicting if Captain America or Thor will be bigger. History says Thor will, but Thor has a massive sequel dropping two weeks after it comes out. Captain America kicks off a completely dead month.
