I really liked SSM's version of Eddie/Venom. It was a nice twist to make Brock start out as one of Peter's best friends instead of a rival photographer. That way, when he does turn into Venom it isn't as much of a stretch to believe he would take what Peter did to him personally. I didn't mind Venom's look either. I wish he looked a little more evil and had a few more teeth, but it wasn't bad. I mean, the entire animation of that show was very simple. The 90's cartoon version was good too,but I was never crazy about his look on that show, with the blue and red shadowing he had. But the show had a darker feel to it than SSM,which I liked. Again, the USM cartoon version was pretty damn good...if it would've been Eddie under the symbiote, and if he didn't have that stupid long tongue! Ugh! lol I will give credit,it was creative to have "Venom" being born from Spidey's DNA,even if they did mess it up by making "Venom" just a life form that goes from host to host(again,Venom is Eddie+symbiote,at least for me).

I actually hated how Doc Ock created Venom by filtering the "hate and rage" from Spidey's blood. That made no sense at all.

Harry as Venom had potential, since he had a feasible motive, but the show is so awful, they ruined the potential of it.

I just thought it was a nice change of pace. Don't get me wrong, being a huge Venom fan I love the original origin story with Eddie Brock and the symbiote, but we've seen it all before. I wasn't 100% happy with what they did,but at least they tried something different, even if it didn't thrill everyone.

Wow, that's some excellent art! Good job Spidey 62. Venom is my favorite Spider-Man villain.

Venom as depicted in the upcoming "Avengers: Battle for Earth" game. Pretty awesome if you ask me.

I'm always a classic Brock-Venom fan before most others but Flash-Venom is pretty damn good.

Not to sound like a douche, but if that's one of the best manips you've seen, you haven't seen many. That's pretty obvious fake and doofy looking in my opinion.

This is how Venom should look:

Classic McFarlane Venom. I love how this piece really captures his original appearance in the comics, no drool or long tongue. If they end up working on that Venom movie, I'm hoping that this is the way they go as far as character design is concerned. The image in the post above is a great example of what Venom should never look like.

I've been asking this around here for three years now, but would somebody make me a manip or something of Jensen Ackles as Brock/Venom? I know I must sound like a broken record, but I just think it's perfect casting. He's great in Supernatural.

I've always thought McFarlene's Venom was the best, both in terms of look and personality. I hate the goofy long tongue, green drool and hulk-like appearance that he's been given over the years. McFarlene's Venom had a simple look, but it was really creepy with those big eyes and huge toothy smile.

Venom has been my favorite since I was a kid. He's THE villain in my mind. He has a good reason to hate Peter.

I think he's certainly the coolest, most original and most interesting villain in the Marvel universe. But I still love only Eddie as Venom. I'm not a fan of anyone else with the symbiote.

Eddie Brock was the only Venom that was cool. Like Spider-Man once said, "A loser dressed up as Venom is still a friggin loser."

So,I wanted to ask you guys about the Venom legacy. For a while in the late 80's and 90's he was Marvel's most popular character/villain. I have noticed that his popularity has gone down a bit over the years, but how do you think he ranks in Spider-man history/comic book lore/pop culture today? Is he still as popular or loved as he was before? I think the fact that SO many people wanted to see him in Spider-man 3 really speaks to his continued popularity. And despite how the film played,I know alot of people who weren't really big comic book fans who went to see the movie just because he was in it. I know alot of comic book and entertainment magazines and shows at the time really played up the fact he was in it. In fact I believe that's why the film had such a huge opening and why it was the trilogy's top money maker.

He's not as popular or beloved as before, because for many people Venom is Eddie Brock + symbiote, period. No negotiation. Game over.

If the Venom symbiote is off doing other stuff, great. Just don't call it Venom.

S-M3 was a travesty and turned off so many longterm fans. It was a disgrace and an insult to a great villain. That 70s Venom was no more Venom than, well, you or me.

He does not have a good reason to hate Peter, its 100% manufactured blame-shifting. Brock is a pretty serious personality disorder, unable to accept blame for his own failings.

There is something absolutely hilarious about this hulking, slavering monster webslinging around NYC wailing about how this and that person is or is not "innocent." What a feeb, no one over the age of ten is innocent. Him least of all! But again, its perfect for the character.
