Y'know... that doesn't bother me AT ALL. Knightly is a really good actress.

She might need to put a little weight on, but if she's willing to (that's a big if, I think), she could be incredible as Diana.

I can definitely agree with you there DrCosmic. To some extent, Tarsem has yet to show that quality in his films but he's still very young. It's not like I'm asking him to do one tomorrow. If rumours of Nolan godfathering Dc are right, Tarsem could be helped out in that aspect. Atleast for me, Snyder doesn't tick the third box yet either but if has had Nolan looking over his shoulder. I also think that job (making characters likeable) can be partly done by a good script of course the director is just as important.
Actually, Daniel Day Lewis as a sort of split the difference between older Steve and younger Steve - an older experienced military man who is also a rogueish love interest, a sort of May-December Romance thing, might be very interesting.

I see what you're saying, but Singh is not in the same boat as Snyder. Snyder's specialty is something that Nolan is sorely missing, and Snyder also rocked the world with 300, and made something great with Owls of Ga'Hoole. And Watchmen, like those two was a great (comic) book adaptation... albeit a bad film.

Keira is definitely beautiful and talented, no doubt.

But I agree that she would seriously need to put on some weight for WW.

She can't look like a skinny runway model, cos that would be completely wrong for the part.

Kiera Knightley is in the same boat as Zoe Saldana. Skinny as ****, yet apparently they can beat the crap out of dudes that would pummel most of us on here.

Meh, they're just invulnerable to the kickback on guns, like every other movie character...

So... you want someone with a thicker neck to be Diana? Is that really the issue? "Yeah, Keira really got in shape for this part but... no way Diana's neck could be that skinny..."

I've been thinking lately what a WW film trilogy would look like (optimistic, I know). As many have said, Ares should be the overarching villain, so the finale of the animated movie (WW vs Ares) would be the perfect climax, especially when she decapitates him at the end (hard to beat killing a god. )

Also, I started thinking about how she could get banished to Hades and have to fight her way out while Ares unleashes his plans on Earth. Then I was all "Hang on, that's The Dark Knight Rises with Wonder Woman!" Which...well, it could be worse, right?

yeah i do. she's not so extraordinary that you need to have her for the role. there are plenty of other actresses out there that can be just as good as she. it's not like i want the casting director to get in his delorean and fetch a prime mike tyson from 1985 for the role.

Aside from that's a uniquely perfect picture for your argument, there aren't plenty of outstanding 5'7+ young actresses that aren't tied up in some other superhero venture. Maybe three, tops. You're not asking for the impossible, I'd love to see the pool you're calling 'plenty.' I think you'll find the others have just as many disqualifications as a neck that looks super skinny from a 3/4 angle at their lowest bodyweight - assuming you value acting quality over filling out the suit.

There ARE other actresses for WW, people are just naming the most popular and familiar ones. I agree Keira is not the best choice.

Just because she's a good actress doesn't mean she would be good for W W I just dont like her for the part TBH. I think Emily Blunt is the best contender.

She's a swan. Hence her being Portman's doppelganger all these years.

KK isnt just thin. Shes is really really thin with absolutely no chest to speak of. Great actress, one of the best leading ladies of her generation, but she could never achieve the necessary physique. And from a health perspective, I wouldnt want her to. Im all for getting the best actress possible, even if she doesnt really resemble the WW from the comics, but there are limits. Id say the same goes for Mila Kunis, but she doesnt have the talent or resume of KK so its not really the same thing (plus shes 5'4" in heels).

Keira would be great as the Wasp though. I would love someone of her caliber in the mix. But as WW, shes just not right.

If Emily Blunt is interested, and WB/DC wants to pay her A-list money - say 6 million plus - then the role is hers. My guess is that WB will rationalize a non-tentpole budget (see: GL*) by claiming they need a relative unknown so we will probably get a "hottie of the week" instead of a legit A-lister.

Its all riding on the relative success of MoS. If the movie makes a billion, skies the limit. under 700 million, everything is still up in the air.

* not referencing the star, who is probably considered A-list (or was at the time), but the inadequate budget. 150 million for a top shelf superhero movie just doesnt cut it anymore.

I'm actually inclined to agree.

I'm coming from the idea that in order to be a great film, WW needs a great actress in the lead role. Most of the great actresses are popular and familiar. It's not a star power thing as much as an acting quality thing. Most of the people mentioned who are 'right' for the role in this thread are only right for pictures, and are generally decent but never outstanding actresses. Why that's acceptable for Diana, or why that is supposed to make a great WW film, I don't know.

Blunt would be the best contender if she expressed an ounce of interest. She turned down a lot of superhero roles.
