It's very difficult to get 90% of people to agree on anything. Even moreso with an over-the-top CGI action movie. Batman Begins 'only' has a 85% for the record. Wrap your head around that one.

78% is not the end of the world.
Besides, is not the same a rotten review of 1/5 rating than a rotten review of 2.5/5.
Rotten Tomatoes is like the most basic way of scoring reviews.

It's interesting to note that this is the first Marvel film to pretty much exclusively pull all it's inspiration from source material that was written in the 21st century. There's virtually no silver or bronze age stuff in this movie.

I personally dislike that. It means there's next to no nostalgic benefit I can give this film. I stopped reading comics in the late 90's. I'm a silver/bronze age guy all the way.

I apply that to Spider-Man 3 for myself too. I'm not particularly fan of the Venom storyline.

But the Venom storyline goes back to the 1980's. Nothing in IM3 is pre-2000.

I think some people just got so hyped for it too be Ben Kingsley that after the twist they couldn't accept it.

I wish they'd have just used a different villain or simply made one up from scratch to be the faux-threat. Then there likely would be no division or backlash.

The trouble is that it is so hard to ignore so many years of rich storytelling. They gotta start with something.

No matter what people will complain and cry. For those who didn't enjoy it, they saw it once and don't need to ever watch it again. For those who loved it like myself, I look forward to purchasing the bluray and watching it many more times. That's the way it is and always will be with these films. End of story.

Sucks others let one character being different ruin the entire movie for them.
Oh how I wish others thought like you do, I'm fine too with a little deviation from the comics as long as they don't go completely way off the essence of that character.

If it makes you feel any better, it's not all that true to those modern comics anyway. :P

Decided to join because I was super hyped for both Iron Man 3 and Man of Steel.

Saying that I was extremely disappointed in Iron Man it just was not a good movie. The first hour was hard to watch it was pretty boring. There were some pretty funny parts and some nice action but at the same time there was barely any action and some of the jokes were pretty dumb while another large amount were just there. Ben Kingsley killed it but I do not see how that twist was needed really

I have yet to be in a Marvel movie were the crowd was dissapointed or silent when they left the theater.

The main problem with IM3 is that people were expecting many things to happen in the movie, which is not a bad thing considering the marketing used bait and switch tactics.
The direction they took was unexpected, but i thought they nailed what they were aiming for perfectly.
I was initially bothered, but Guy Pearce saved the plot twist for me and right now the movie is among my favorite in the marvel universe because they pretty much hit the point of why Tony is Iron Man instead of some random guy wearing a high tech prosthesis.

This added to my feeling that it is a bad movie. Everyone in my showing was overly negative. Crowd booed at the end credit scene, Some guys called it "s--tty" outloud and they got applause, no one said a thing afterwards. Usually, I'm used to some cheers and excitement at Marvel midnight showings. Absolutely zero this time. Just awkward silence.

Superhero films have and will always elicit polarized reactions in the fan element.
