They COULD use the Imperial March at points and, if there are Sith, we may hear Duel of the Fates. Also, if there's a yoda ghost, we'll probably hear his theme, too. I don't think we'll be hearing the rest.
Agreed.

That's my hope. New music but it still has that SW orchestra feel.

Williams' Home Alone score is also pretty good.

I'm hoping that JJ. Abrams will bring back John Williams to do the music but if he doesn't I think he'll have Michael Giacchino, who is Abrams' most frequent collaborator do it like he did for "Star TreK" & "Mission Impossible".

I'd really hope they use Duel Of The Fates again.

I'd jump out of my seat and give a standing ovation to Star Wars episode 7 if they used Duel Of The Fates for the inevitable Lightsaber fight with the Sith.

I never thought about PT themes being in the ST, the PT had some themes from the OT so I wonder if the ST will occasionally use things from both previous trilogies.

Please no reuse of themes from the PT, or even the OT, except obviously the main theme, and the force theme. The empire is dead, as is vader, DOTF was more or less Maul's theme, the funeral theme was for Qui-Gon & Padme` (though I believe in EP3 it was tracked and re-scored.) New composer, new music.

We don't know if we will have a new composer yet at this point. I think themes like Vader's theme(empire march) will come in handy. For example, maybe Luke has a Jedi son that's conflicted, and Luke mentions to his son that he sees some of his grandfather in him. Just an idea.

I do think that the new trilogy should have mostly new music, though.

The very fact that it was used for 2 completely different characters means it's not exclusive to them. It was the Requiem theme for the saga. Besides, the main theme is Luke's theme, and the Force theme is also Ben Kenobi's theme. But they're transcending the characters, and are about situations or themes. The same can happen with a couple PT themes, like DotF and Requiem.

I have read elsewhere that John Williams is very much open to returning to score the next trilogy.

Directly quoted from his recent concert
I need to make sure I’m still ready to go in a few years for what I hope would be continued work with George…

If there is any sense in the Universe, John Williams will be back. At the very least for episode VII.

As long as it sounds like a Star Wars peice of music, then I'm fine if Williams is not coming back.

Though I REALLY hope he does

I thinks he out of the loop, he probably doesn't know Abrams is directing.

John Williams likely to return according to JJ
JJ Abrams:

I'll guarantee Michael will at least be apart of Episode VIII/IX but I still have a feeling he will be a part of VII in some aspects either as a "sidekick" kind of thing. Because I still face facts that John won't be doing this forever. However I would love to see him return, and can't wait for the score already.

Agreed. Very, very happy about that little tease. As long as he's willing and able, Williams will always be my first choice

Apart from the main/force themes. All new Star Wars= All new score thank you. No nods to anything, especially the PT.

You should let go of your hate. Like it or not Star Wars is one big saga. Despite what you may have thought of the prequels, John Williams still wrote beautiful scores for them, particularly The Phantom Menace. I'm sure Williams will include whatever themes he feels is appropriate while adding awesome new themes for new characters, situations, and set pieces.

I'm freaking out because JW may not even be alive by the time Episode IX is ready for scoring.

Then I'll have to watch a Star Wars film with Giacchino's crappy repeating motifs, the equivalent of banging your head against a window repeatedly.
