I've been wanting to purchase a Marvel omnibus for some time, but never had the money, until now; hence the indecisiveness. I also plan to pick up the Jurgens volumes as I have read recommendations & good reviews of them.
The Man-Thing Omnibus is a thing of beauty...

But you have to be able to appreciate it for what it is...

I kind of hate the current Hawkeye series, for what it's worth. Not saying you shouldn't buy it, just know that it's not all rave reviews.

Corp doesn't like Uncanny X-Force either, so take his opinion with a grain of salt

Sadly, this is the reason why I've lost a lot of interest in Daredevil. I'm still enjoying Waid's run, but it's gone from a top 2 or 3 book for me down to the lower third on my monthly enjoyment list. I've dropped it once and came back. If my budget requires more cuts soon, it might get the ax again.

Is there any website I can go to that helps me find comics based on stuff I've read and liked?

Other than this thread of course... :P

There's tons of sites that do reviews......CBR, Comicvine, ect. Be warned, a lot of the reviewers out there like throwing around 4 and 5 stars to comics that wouldn't warrant a 3.

I like it. I think you'll like it if you like indie type comics.

I love indie comics. Hawkeye is not an indie comic, though. It's a comic about an established, competent superhero that treats him like an idiotic amateur. That irritates me. Also, the whole idea of Kate wanting to have sex with Clint is just icky in so many ways. Granted, I dropped it after two issues, so it may have gotten better.

Haven't been reading this book, but girls want to screw older men all the time. They haven't been actually screwing have they?

Not to my knowledge. And I know that's the case with filthy real-life girls and real-life older men, but I don't necessarily want to see that in Kate and Clint's entirely fictional relationship. Like I said, it's super-icky.

Or if you know absolutely nothing about Clint Barton and his years in the superhero business. If that's the case, you'll love Fraction's "Hawkguy".

Apologies if this has been covered already in the thread but what's the best Sentry solo stuff to read? Jenkins? Parker? Both? Neither? Someone else?

I recommend that no one read the Fantastic Four until they get a writer that grasps which Universe he's writing for.

I LOVE the Fantastic Four but the "gee would'nt it be cool if..." writing has taken over most of the books in the once-glorious Marvel Universe. It was once all character driven writing that made sense to readers who knew the characters. Not anymore.
It's not in Reed Richard's character to put his children at risk by flying them through uncharted space or letting them walk on hungry planets he hasn't analyzed. That's just silly plotting that totally misses the personalities involved.
Moreover, the Ultimateization of the Marvel universe has gone way too far. My FF collection starts in 1964 but Sue Storm's name has been Sue Richards for even longer than that. She's NOT Dr. Sue storm. Not in the 616 universe, anyway. Sue Richards has a much more important title and job description than that. She's a wife and mother and that's what lends her every-woman strength to the storylines of the past 50 years. As someone with a couple college degrees myself I find it fascinating that people are so impressed by someone having obtained one. Enough's enough with all the presto-chango Ultimate crap.
While I salute Fraction's idea of getting back to the core essence of Marvel's First Family of exploration, his mischaracterization makes it just difficult for an old fan like me to read.

Welcome to Matt Fraction's comics. He tends to throw out established characterizations and continuity and do his own thing. Sometimes that works out (see: Immortal Iron Fist). Sometimes it really, really, really doesn't (see: The Mighty Thor).

Totally agree. Except I like that Sue has a college degree. I think it makes her more contemporary. But every issue I find myself hating Reed. What was he thinking?

I thought she always had a college degree.

I mean, it's not like that's a big deal in this day and age.

Haha, I was actually going to ask about those books in the NOW thread because I hadn't heard much about Fraction's run. I guess I know the answer now.

I was so disappointed to see in the solicitations released yesterday that the Impossible Man was going to be in an upcoming issue of FF. I love that guy but I'm not touching a Fraction book with a 10ft pole.

Ummm... no. A bachelor's degree is not a Doctoral degree. Not subjective. And granted, I'm certainly not against character transition and development. I am against waving a magic Fraction wand and pretending like that character development has already occured.
