I'm an American gal and I unabashedly like accents. Yep, I'm a cliche.

I'm a huge Anglophile. I'd kill to be British. Everything sounds so much smarter with an RP accent. Also, the suits and roast beef.

to all

Some who've read my book say there's something distinctively British about it, even though I'm American.

I love, LOVE British women. Partly because of the accent, partly because they're (in my view, anyway) more refined than American girls.

Everyone technically has an accent. What makes one foreign sounding is how unique it is to a particular environment.

So many variations of British accent, I mean their is Scouse which is horrific, their is Manc which is kinda mundane, Geordie which is (in my opinion), nicer on women than it is on men.. as well as many others. I don't even know how to class Cavill's accent. To some degree his is a universal English accent if that makes sense in the same way you get a universal Irish, Northern Irish, Scottish or Welsh accent.. I dunno if that makes sense.

Scottish, Welsh & Northern Irish could all technically be classed as British as well.

I dig accents too. I think both guys and girls are into them. Exotic is hot.

Hrmmm. I didn't realize that Cavill's accent was so hard to place. I assumed that because he was private school educated, his accent was classic RP/Southern English. It doesn't sound too different from old Etonians like Hugh Laurie to me. However, I'm Canadian and what little I know about such things comes from books and BBC.

I wouldn't kill to be British, but I'd kill to live in Britain. Like when I'm old, to live in one of those little villages in the country with my 25-year-old mistress... heaven. I'm a huge anglophile myself. I loved London when I visited it back in 2000.

I loved York, disliked London. Our high school tour bus was pelted with oranges by some hooligans. Plus I thought it was like New York City, except foggier. And the food was expensive, so I ate tea sandwiches all week and lost 5 lbs. (I'm already skinny, those were 5 lbs I didn't have to lose!)

But the smaller cities and villages just have so much character and culture in them, it's really interesting to see how people live there. I thought the same thing when we went to France and Italy.

what I really like about Henry is that in all the interviews and TMZ style ambushes, he's always so polite and classy. both to the interviewers/TMZ guys and to fans who approach him. so far, at least.

I hope that's one aspect about him that doesn't change, especially if he becomes really big and famous after MOS comes out.

What would you say are some of the interesting differences you've seen in the UK?

I'm just so curious how you guys see us from the outside!

And yeah, I come from small country towns and i've both loved and hated them for various reasons at different points in my life.

I'm much happier in Bristol at this stage It's such a great city, so much character. Always lots creative and interesting things going on.

I went to a summer program in Northampton with my sister when I was 13.

- It’s funny how you guys call the TV “telly”.

- Obesity was a little more common than I was used to (I lived in Portugal at the time).

- Law-abiding. This Russian girl from my program once accidentally shot a bit of foam from a fire extinguisher and they summoned us all to the common room to tell us about how dangerous that was, etc.

- I was really into these books called the Adrian Mole diaries at the time, which paints this very cynical and humorous portrait of Britain, and I found it to be somewhat accurate. I remember walking by a pastry shop and there was this young rough-around-the-edges guy offering fudge samples. He’d say “Fudge, fudge try it out, it’s delicious”, and when no one tried it, he’d actually say aloud “Come on, what is WRONG with you people!” It was hilarious.

- Really uptight about moviegoers’ age. I remember they wouldn’t let me in to watch Mission Impossible 2. The teacher from my group had to lie and say I was 15.

- My sister would sometimes get these fits of home sickness, and the teacher would hug her and comfort her. Very warmhearted lady (a big contrast from the Brits in "Three men and a little lady" .)

- Once this old drunk passed us by on the sidewalk and yelled at the same Russian girl "MOVE, B--!" That was weird. Poor Russian girl.

- Very diverse. Black, Latinos and Indians everywhere.

- London is AMAZING. It's the coolest blend of classic and modern I've ever seen. Can't wait to go back.

Even my bosses at work (for a reputable company in an office environment) have told me about their drug antics and had a good old laugh about it.

Some of what you said is probably fair, but I think most of it is just what it was like in that area at that time. It's certainly not my experience of this country!

Cept the drunk guy... that sounds about right

I agree about the blend of classic and modern though. I think the old buildings in cities all over the country are one of the best things about it. I love looking up at awesome, unique stuff like that, and it really shapes a cities character.

That's why I found Cardiff a bit dull when I was living there I think. There isn't much of that around.
