I think 200-250 dom should be the target, with 350-400 foreign. Solid and reasonable milestones to reach. 600 should be the target.

Are you serious? Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, Marvel, The Avengers... how much more star power do you need?

Thor 2 definitely has more star power than MOS.

Even if Thor: The Dark World doesn't beat Man of Steel, its already a guaranteed success unlike Man of Steel. Man of Steel could still flop or be a box-office disappointment even if it outgrosses the 1st Thor movie.

Those are worse than worst case scenarios. Minimum floor for this should be $600m with $700-800m as the target.

Not to mention star power should hardly even be used as an argument with Marvel movies anymore. I don't understand how long it's going to take people to grasp that concept.

Superman would pretty much have to have more star power than Batman, when it comes to movies, to outdo IM3 and I don't think that's the case.

Superman Returns didn't do any better than Thor, and the latter was a very unknown character at that time when it comes to the general audience.

There's a nice analysis of the TDW's BO potential on boxoffice.com:

We really can expect some nice numbers.

But one thing you can't deny is a long with lesser known actors who have become big in Marvel movies, Marvel has also got some A-listers in supporting roles!

I'm upping my prediction from $250m US/ $450m OS to

$300m US/ $600-$700m OS // $900-$1bn WW.

Yeah, I'm going there.

IM3 hit those number in just 2 weeks US & 3 weeks Overseas, I really don't see a reason why Dark World can't hit them in it's entire run.

100% certainly that in out grosses the first Thor film. That's a no-brainer.

$250m-$300m domestic.

True. Thor will be greater. People underestimate thor's increasing popularity. I mean the first Iron man with RDJ pulled in $580mill or so. The first thor with a COMPLETE unknown pulled in about $450mill. Not THAT big of a gap honestly.

CLEARLY

People act as if IM1 made 1 billion dollars, it only made 130M more than Thor. Loki by himself is arguably just as popular as Stark, both Thor and Loki are alot more popular after The Avengers.

I believe that, specially if it's great, it will double his international gross, so it will make at least 500M there.
Considering it will do more more than 200M in US, I see 700M as the floor for this movie, really.

People should take into account that this film will not only attract Thor fans, casual fans and an expanded general audience who liked Thor in Marvel's The Avengers, but also hordes of Loki fangirls (a group that expanded after Marvel's The Avengers too).

If we apply Iron Man 3's growth pattern to Thor, the film would see about $232 M domestic, and $682 M foreign (based on a $400 M domestic/ 800 Foreign projection for IM 3). Cap would see $225 M /$485 M based on these same patterns.

While there is always the Downey argument, Thor has two popular characters from Avengers, and Captain America has half the cast. I'm sure that will help both properties out.

3rd place is a tie. I have seen or heard no evidence to think otherwise.

I can't remember if I posted a prediction, but. . .

100M OW, 250M DOM, 750M WW.

A nice, fairly conservative growth from the first movie, but still assuming a decent Avengers bump.

Thor: TDW has Thor AND Loki so it has a high chance of doing well (over $700 million I would say).

We now know the Avengers effect is real.

There's no use in underestimating the solo sequels.

700 m is the floor.

If the movie is really good, look out. 850+ m would be in play.

and I never thought I'd be saying that about a Thor sequel a few months ago.
