Yeah Henry has a really well-spoken British accent. He talks real proper.

It's been more than 10 years, so I can't really remember. We were in high school, so even then most of us were too young to drink. But some of my classmates did wander past a pub where some drunk guy stumbled out, hit his head on the curb, and an ambulance had to be called because blood was everywhere. It wasn't all that late either! You Brits love your alcohol!

I think when I go to Europe in general, I'm so stunned by the tradition that still permeates everything. A lot of the buildings are hundreds of years older than anything we have in the US. My aunt got miffed in Italy because the everyday siesta interfered with her shopping. I've lived in larger cities in the US, and there's so much emphasis on innovation and the new, that the only real traditions you see are the ethnic areas, like Chinatown or Olvera St in LA, which is strongly Mexican.

Not to say that places like London or Barcelona are old stodgy towns, but the cities themselves have such history, that it's hard to ignore it. Everything in the US is still so new, and we think we're too cool to pay attention to our past yet.

When I say hard to place, I mean it's hard to place in terms of where he comes from as the accents from alot of places in England are quite definitive. It's no doubt due to his upbringing & the fact that I presume he was shifted all over England attending school & whatnot & then I believe he started his acting career around 18 or so meaning he had probably been living in or visited America as well.

He wasn't born in England either sure he wasn't? Jersey? or am I making that up.. I could have swore I read that somewhere.

Yeah, we have pubs literally everywhere in England. Like literally within every mile there is a pub somewhere. I hear pubs don't exist in America. Is this true? I dont drink and I often think I'm much better suited to the US if they dont drink as much!!

We have a lot of pub in English Canada being a former colony and all and a major destination from emigrants from the British Isles for a long time, but honestly, now that your question forced me to think about it, what makes a pub a pub rather than just a bar? In my experience, I would describe as a bar where one can talk and sit with friends while drinking rather than being bombarded with music or overly crowded like a normal club or bar and with typical British pub decor. However, certain types of American taverns and bars also match that description so I don't know. So horribly off-topic but it was an interesting question.

We have pubs here, although I guess the term is interchangeable with "bar." They're still very much used as afterparty locales, and some go "bar-hopping" just to check out the scene. It's usually not an everyday thing, though, usually it's a weekend thing you do with your friends.

Bars/pubs usually close at 2am here, and you know when they do, because the 24-hr diners start filling up with former patrons.

"Gastropub" is the newfangled term, where a pub has great food along with a nice selection of beers. In my experience, pubs usually just have beer, although a VERY wide selection of beers! Bars are more about the mixed drinks, although you can have sketchy "dive bars" as well as fancy cocktail bars and the like. A "pub" is where I imagine friends would meet up, vs a bar which is more for picking up chicks or meeting new people.

Binge drinking is still a thing on college campuses, but drinking on the job is looked down upon nowadays. Even 20 years ago, you could have a martini at lunch and it was fairly normal. I don't drink at all (I hate the taste of alcohol, and I'm a cheapskate), and even at events where there's beer, you can always find or ask for water. But drinking is definitely not a monoculture at all. You can definitely still have fun if you don't drink.

Well thanks for giving me the rundown! Yes I think when I said pub I meant they are strictly wood only inside, with an old Victorian feel with dim lighting. And yes they mostly serve beer but also serve food/ meals.

I would rather do that than nightclubs. I cant drink for medical reasons plus the fact I do not particularly like drinking or that culture at-all really.

Aaaanyway, I wonder how much of a drinker Henry is. Mmmm.

To fold this all back into an on-topic discussion, what is everyone's opinions on Clark relaxing and having a beer with Pa Kent, as I believe he did on one of the covers for Secret Origin before there was backlash and it was changed? I can understand the issue that children read comics and you don't want them to think that drinking is cool because SUperman does it. (at least, I assume that was the complaint made)

Personally, I think a moment like that is a normal part of life and makes Clark more human. Moreover, I don't have an issue with it because I think it is a positive depiction of healthy, restrained consumption of alcohol in a social setting.

Sorry to go completely off topic and bring up the UK and Ireland again, but I think London should be used as a base design for Gotham should MOS lead to a rebooted Batman.

I think there a lot of ways to define a place as a pub:

- Daytime drinkers and 'locals' (guys that literally spend whole days in there drinking beer)
- Bar stools & 'barflies' (people who always sit around the bar - usually guys who come in on their own and sit and read the paper and maybe make conversation with he barmaid).
- Teams I.e. Darts, Pool etc.

It's also a bit about the look of the place. Lots of wood and cotton cusioned chairs and big bulky bars. Lots of pubs have odd things collected and displayed - mini spirit bottles, novelty shot glass or mugs, awards and cups from their teams wins etc.

I've worked in several proper pubs, and I absolutely love them and do miss them in the city. It's just not the same.

London is in the middle of a buliding boom right now. For some reason developers in the city have a obsession with building odd shaped buildings over the last deacade.

I prefer London as I like how diverse it is. Many parts of London are like mini towns within the larger city. Many parts of Paris are nice but you also got lots of areas that are ghetto hell holes as well.

Henry Cavill, 'Man Of Steel' Actor, Named Fans' Hottest Film Star For 2013

Henry Cavill has been chosen as the hottest actor to watch out for this year by film fans.

The British actor, soon to be seen as Superman in Zack Snyder's highly anticipated 'Man Of Steel', beat fellow Brits Sam Claflin and Nicholas Hoult to be crowned the biggest male breakout movie star of 2013, according to Fandango.com.

I think Russell Crowe wasn't lying when he said Man Of Steel would change Cavill's life. He's going to be big after this movie.

Cavill earned the nicname "The most Unlucky man in Hollywood". He came close to beeing cast as superman in two previous adaptions, before this one (as we all know). One being JJ. Abrams never to see the light of day - "Superman: Flyby". Next he was close to being cast in Singer's mediocre Donner-nostalgic "Superman Returns" (thank GOD he didn't get it, looking at things now!). He's been close to being cast as James Bond (If Nolan really ends up directing one, could Cavill maybe be in the lead?). At a stage he was thought about regarding Edward in Twilight (good thing he didn't get that, because he was too old! Halleluja!). Heck, he's even been considered for Bruce Wayne aka. Batman!

When all is said and done, I think his nicname is well earned. But something could indicate that he's finally about to hit the BIG_one! And well deserved as well. This guy has a great story behind his journey to being cast in this monster iconic role within this exact movie. So has anything been UNlucky for him? Or is this actually just a case of a hardworking actor, who didn't give up and has now finally reached his destiny? It all lead to this... I'm crossing all fingers and toes that he'll kick major ass in this film!

Christ, I never even thought about that! To get another role that he was previously denied (and possibly become a Nolan regular as many of his other actors are), that would be full circle indeed! But yes I believe, especially in Henry's case, that everything happens for a reason. He just wasn't meant to have those particular roles, and if you think about it he was probably much better off not getting them (especially that godawful Twilight nonsense - thank God he was too old for that role).

Now it's just a matter of making clever choices when he's offered movie roles. It seems like in the past he accepted movie roles more so to make ends meet (In the Cold Light of Day anyone?). No doubt now, with Superman behind him, he'll definitely have the chance to snag more quality roles. And I'm kind of hoping he doesn't get offered 50 Shades of Grey. Seems more like a step back to me, but that's just my opinion.
