I thought Pine has made Kirk his own animal in these films. I really felt his pain when Pike died.

(DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU'VE SEEN THE FILM)

yep. The way in the build up you really got a father/son, mentor/student sense with them (especially in the bar scene). I really felt for Kirk. And was GUTTED to see Pike die

I thought Pine was really good in this.

He was good in the first one, but he really showed dramatic chops in this.

I thought it was cool how Pike berates Kirk for being a renegade and later on in the film, Kirk receives his comeuppance.

Pine showed he's got some serious acting chops. Wow he's really grown into the role as Kirk.

I heard he still gets his butt handed to him AGAIN in fights lol. First movie he got beat by the guys at the bar, Spock, and Nero. I am like he really needs to get some fight skills and start kicking some butt!

Well...in Kirk's defense, he got his ass whooped by a group of guys at a bar, a Vulcan hybrid, an angry Romulan, and an Augment. Let's not forget that he did hold his own against a few Klingons. Kirk's problems were hardly about his fighting skills.

Basically the issue is that he's always outgunned physically when going into a fight, but still goes in regardless. That is Kirk.

Pine managed to make Kirk very very likeable even when he is being wreck less. The man is perfect for the role

He's a starship captain, a leader, explorer, and diplomat - it's not like he is some special forces operator. When it goes come down to combat, Kirk's strength is his resolve and tactical ingenuity. He "cheats" death, he is not Batman. He defeats the Gorn by constructing a crude firearm. He defeats Khan in Star Trek II through guile and improvisation (hacking the Reliant's computers and thinking three dimensionally). If I recall correctly, when he went hand to hand with Khan in Space Seed, he had his ass handed to him and only defeats Khan by secretly pulling a piece of machinery off the wall and bashing Khan over the head with it.

He also has a lot of fan girls. The screening I went to was half full of girls saying stuff like "omg he's so cute". The reaction to the radiation scene was priceless. Plenty of crying and one girl said "I'll never watch this again".

Something I never expected watching a Star Trek movie.

Haha, the one downside to being an attractive actor is that you get a subsection of pretty stupid fans.

I think Chris Pine is adorable too. But seriously, ladies, sacrificing himself to save his crew is damn sexy.. Suck it up.

I think Pine needs to watch a few roman and greek generals to get inspiration (Shatner took some inspiration from Alexander the Great) and also think and speak a bit more philosophically. He doesn't need to have long pauses between his words but he should be more of a thinking and moralising leader which he hasn't really done too much.
