This is what I agree with the most...as much of an X-Fan as I am, I don't think The Wolverine will be the best of the best...but it does look to be one of the most entertaining.

Do I think The Wolverine will be 2013's best hero film?

From your posting history we already knew you would say that.

It will have a hard act to follow IM3 & MOS. IMO, for this movie to be considered successful, it has to aim for $250M.

In terms of reviews from the critics, I don't think its hard to beat Iron Man 3. It didn't have a higher Rotten Tomatoes rating than the "good" X-Men movies anyway.

Not to me. Origins left a really bad taste in my mouth, and nothing I've seen in the trailers tells me this time it's any different. It's more of the same with nothing new to the character we haven't seen in other movies.

Well we've never seen him look this rugged, we've never seen him battle samurai's or the yakuza, we've never seen his love interest in Japan, we've never seen him this violent, we've never seen him this vulnerable, I mean.. there is plenty of stuff in this movie that we haven't seen before.

Yeah this is the first time Wolverine might not heal from his physical wounds. So that is something new.

I guess. It just looks like angry Wolverine again but not that angry where he actually ever kills anyone or gets really that feral followed with a third act where he swipes his claws at some dude, and then the movie ends.

What? A majority of this film will be him doing exactly what you said he wouldn't be. Hell, the trailer alone shows him going absolutely ape **** on Shingen

He will probably kill a lot of ninjas in this movie and that bull-train scene suggests that he will be facing a couple of people.

I'm not sure if it's going to be the best superhero film of the year, but the more I hear about it the more convinced I'm becoming that, despite its standalone nature story-wise, it'll end up being the best film in the X-Franchise to date and the perfect 'harbinger' to Bryan Singer's DoFP.

I think it could easily top Iron Man 3 and Man of Steel!

As far as I am corncerned topping Iron Man 3 won't be hard as far as quality goes.
There Is possibilty the wolverine may be closer to wolverine lore than Man of steel Is
to Superman.There Is concern with man of steel they are changing and reimaging things just to do It.

The Wolverine is in a weird situation, as I see it. In terms of superhero films, the odds are stacked against it being the most financially successful film of the year: Origins left a terrible taste in the public's mouth, adding to an even nastier taste from X3. Hence, it is why First Class was not a super-blockbuster success. In comparison to the year, Man of Steel has a chance to be a really powerful superhero film, provided Snyder overcomes some of his recurring flaws as a director (overuse of slow motion,) and Nolan's input is reduced, if none at all (the grounding does not need to be applied to Superman. Trying to ground him in realism will result in the film having a self inflicted gunshot to the head.) Hence, MOS has a considerable chance, but is against good competition, since IM3 was a powerhouse, financially and critically (fanboy whining is irrelevant.) Thor: The Dark World has a chance, but, considering its successor underperformed, it is iffy, at this point.

If I had to rank the blockbusters, it would look as follows:

IM3 has dominated thus far;
MOS is shaping for success;
THOR: TDW is a wild card;

Now, Mangold has acknowledged that he wanted to a crime/noir film; Chinatown is frequently invoked in almost every interview. Hence, it is distancing from the genre; however, if understands what makes Chinatown great and successfully applied, there is a good chance The Wolverine might please the critics and will make some good money...but not IM3 money.

The Wolverine was never going to be top grossing comic book film of year.

I can't take any crtic who gives Iron Man 3 such high praise seriously.You can
depart from comic book lore and people will accept(Spider-Man,Spider-Man 2,
The dark knight rises) I consider Iron Man 3 bad film as well as bad comic
book film.If Fox or Sony would have done Iron Man 3 many here would not bashing It like crazy.It's take on Th Mandarian makes Ra's al Ghul In dark Knight trilogy looke faithful.

The Wolverine Is the antiOrigins.Domesticly as far as Box office It's best chance
Is to get close to what Origins did.Quality wise will be It's strength.

The concerning things about Man of steel Is the so called realistic quotes.And
they seem like they laregly wanting to reimagne things from Superman lore.
And too many are expecting a dark knight level hit from Man of steel.

Thor Is wildcard.People are expecting an Iron man size success now but
first film did domesticly what Origins did.No MS film without Robert Downey JR
as star has hit 200 million.Seeing fate of Loki may help It but will that really
get them to Iron Man sucess.

Man of Steel is probably more of an unknown that people are expecting. It's still a Snyder film and he hasn't had a film over 70% on RT since Dawn of the Dead and going by Top Critics he's never even had a "fresh" one.

His whole production company was changed for MoS so don't go off that

And especially after that terrible Sucker Punch movie, I'm not confident with MOS being a great movie.

I'm not 100% sure this movie will wow the general audience. From all the interviews that recently popped up, it sounds like Mangold is willing to take some risks with this movie; moving away from the 'obvious' comic book film, having a mostly Japanese cast, no huge names attached except Hugh's etc etc..
On the other hand, *because* of the risks, I think this has the potential to be amazing, especially for fans. This can be new, and unexpected, on a whole new level.

So what I expect is that it's either gonna amaze everyone, or it's just gonna amaze the fans (if the general audience actually *wants* a typical comic book movie..)

Either way, I have high hopes to be amazed.

I'm looking forward to Man of Steel as well, despite Snyder's less than stellar track record with me. I think The Wolverine has it at least beat in terms of color though, MoS has this desaturated aesthetic that's kind of odd from the marketing materials.

The movie looks silly and the director is mediocre, I predict it will have the worse reviews out of all the comicbook movies this year.
