Anyways, there's a difference between different races and countries in Asia. I think one poster suggested the average viewer or fan wanted the classic 'asian-dude' not meaning Indian precisely.

Comic Mandarin isn't Chinese. And he doesn't have magic rings like many people think.

In fact nobody knows anything about the Mandarin, what is real name is, his true lineage (some have written he comes from Ghenis Khan bloodline, while it was recently written that it was all a lie). Look at Iron Man v.1 issues 241-242, Mandarin tries to pass himself as someone else, even tries to lie to Tony Stark himself that he's someone else.

What is true is that everything Killian/Mandarin did to Tony in the movie, comic Mandarin has one way or another done or tried to do in the comics.

Traditionally Mandarin is said to be English/Mongolian, but it varies a bit depending on who is doing the writing on how much that is true or not. I've never known him as actually being Chinese.

I've read British mother and a Chinese father, born in China and having Chinese nationality (when born at least).

He was born in China so in that sense he is Chinese, but I was referring to his ancestry. Of course, I haven't read many comics in a while so it could be different now.

Virtually every character in the IM movies underwent significant changes from their comic book personas and backstories, but the complainers only single out Mandarin, nobody else. Go figure.

I checked sites like Marvel.com and such.

Whoa, only because no other character turned out to be a hoax that never existed played by unemployed actors? That is so discriminatory.

But Mandarin *did* exist. His name is Aldrich Killian.
You can ignore that all you want, or try to sweep it under the rug, or whatever you want, but it doesn't change the basic fact that Aldrich Killian is The Mandarin, and that he's the most formidable and manipulative foe Tony Stark has faced in the movies (yes, even more formidable and manipulative than Loki, who was surprisingly easy to counteract both physically and mentally in TA1).

In the film, The Mandarin known to the public was a hoax, yes. But that doesn't equate to the Mandarin never existing. There was still a man (genius-level, physically imposing, worldly, borderline superhuman) who was executing an agenda for his own benefit and against Tony Stark...and who even went as far as to ultimately call himself the Mandarin.

Killian was the Mandarin all along. We just didn't know it until we saw the film.

I can't say anything in favor of Loki in Avengers.

It's like we found out Bruce Wayne is just a drunken billionaire who pays someone else to be Batman. Sure, Batman still exists.

How do you figure? Killian isn't paying Trevor to do anything more than act like a terrorist on camera. *Killian* is doing all the heavy lifting and groundwork, and IS the organization.

The scenario you describe, ironically enough, summarizes comic-book Tony Stark in a nutshell.....(alleged) drunken billionaire who (allegedly) pays someone else to be Iron Man, his (alleged) bodyguard.

*mind....blown*

I'd swear I've seen Tony Stark being Iron Man himself.

I really hope Trevor is really The Mandarin all along and will reveal himself later in the MCU, I think it would be a epic twist to add to a...twist...

It'd be a way to try to amend this mistake.

Uh, that's a totally different scenario, doesn't make sense, and is in no way a good comparison to make your point. But A for effort!

Bad example, but got an A. There's more credit here than you're willing to admit, got it.

Where is this "good character" of which you speak....?
Oh, wait, I get it....you're insinuating that a D-lister racist caricature at the top of a long list of crappy Iron Man villains --- you know, the one who got the crackerjack pew-pew alien magic rings (that shoot laser beams and fireballs and stuff) from a dead dragon in a crashed flying saucer and then proceeded to establish himself as a Genghis Khan/Fu Manchu warlord in a China that apparently never quite evolved past the feudal era --- you're insinuating *that* cartoon character is a "good character," right....?

....yeah, no.
