The fact Bruce Wayne was willing to jump to his death in order to go back to his real life for me says a lot.

I love how Batman's cape closing in. Simple things like that makes this show look good.

I love that angry tearful rant Tetch has at Batman at the end when Batman asks him why did he do it. "YOU OF ALL PEOPLE HAVE THE GALL TO ASK ME THAT?!? You ruined my life. I was willing to give you what ever life you wanted...just to keep you out of mine!".

On the subject of Perchance to Dream, Alan Burnett talks about the episodes battle with BS&P...

Quote:
I’ll never forget - we had a story called “Perchance to Dream,” in which Bruce Wayne realizes he’s trapped in a dream induced by the Mad Hatter, and the only way he can get out of it is to startle himself so strongly that he wakes up. To do this, he jumps off a bell tower in his dream (and if the tower reminds you of the one in “Vertigo,” you now know why). In essence, what Bruce has to do is commit suicide, which I dare say is something rarely advocated in children’s programming. We were okay up until the storyboard, which was pretty blunt about him jumping off a building. (So was the script, but when you actually see it drawn… ay-yi-yi!) Avery sat down with us and edited that section of the board so that the jump became very abstract. Adults could easily read into it what was happening, but to the little ones, it was as if he was leaping into a cloud. We were extremely relieved to save this story, because it was one of the best scripts of the run (written by Joe Lansdale).

Nice.

Hearing Joe Lansdale talk on the Spill.com podcast for the 5 or 6 times he was there, his stories was always fascinating.

I liked how it taught kids that one half of the brain is used for reading while the other half is used for dreaming.

But it's a lie!

The episode is nice but why would the Mad Hatter go such lengths? There are easier ways to get rid of Batman.

Like what? XD

I mean, these rogues have been trying to kill the Bat from God knows when *cough1939cough*.

Still, speaking of the simplest ways to kill a Batman comes from Croc.

Batman was already knocked out.

I think this could have been better written.

Was this from Vols 3/4? I have Vols 1&2 but never these. Thanks for posting.

BTAS Episode: The Underdwellers

http://kane52630.tumblr.com/post/522...nimated-series

Trivia

Quote:
  • Batman seemingly kills one of the Sewer King's alligators by forcing its mouth open too far.
  • Strictly speaking, the pressure of an alligator's jaws is such that a man keeping one's mouth from closing is quite impossible, or, at the very least, attempting to do so is unwise. It is far easier to keep a alligator's mouth closed and tie it shut.
  • This episode has the smallest credited cast of the entire DCAU, with only four names listed.
  • The Sewer King's line "A few hours in the light will make Jack a bright boy" echoes the proverb "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy."
  • This is the first episode of the series to show Batman's soft spot for children, displayed when he expresses a desire to kill the Sewer King for his abusive treatment of them.

One of the odder episodes. I didn't like the Seewer King as a villain but the dynamic of Batman saving lost children was a good concept for an episode.

Really dark episode in parts. I mean that Sewer King was basically making slaves out of children. Keeping them in filthy conditions, wearing raggedy clothes, had them so scared they were not allowed to speak, and if any of them made a sound they were punished by being subjected to the torture of being locked in a room with blinding light shone on you for hours because these kids had light sensitive eyes because they were never allowed go out in daylight hours.

I never noticed the bat insignia eyes in the 2nd gif until I made it. I may do one more round because there's scenes I really wanted to gif but missed. As for the episode, it always stuck with me mostly because I've seen that episode a fair amount of times online and on tv before ever buying the dvds.

Despite the fact that Paul Dini got his entire motivation for Mr. Freeze from that single thought.
