I've seen those movies, and I'm one of the Rock's biggest fans, but I still wish someone else would be picked to play Cage. The Rock plays the overused "yea I made some mistakes in my past but I'm a good guy deep down" character. I'm sorry, but I'm tired of seeing that overused characterization in films! I am not saying the movie if cast the Rock will tank, (quite the contrary) but I want to see someone who is actually a scary dude that you don't want to mess with in real life. Case in point, I mean the Rock comes off as a cool guy you can poke the occasional insult to, but if you push him too far he could put you in the hospital, or the grave. II don't want to see that guy play Cage, I want to someone you know not to mess with, someone with actual street credibility. But hey, if Rocky says he can pull it off I'll give him a chance.

[EDIT]

I still have vivid memories of the 1970's, and I always imagined Luke Cage played by someone like James Evans from Good Times (who use to scare the **** out of me as a kid).

Being based on a real story doesn't mean it wasn't trying to patronize the thug life.

I wonder why Marvel can't simply sign people to "stand-by" contracts, and then when the movie role comes up then it is formalized for them.

If Marvel knows whats best for them, then getting The Rock as Cage is an instant win.

My other pick Rock could play would be Simon Williams aka Wonderman.

Fast 5 and Fast 6....
He got 5mil for Scorpion King
at the time of Fast 5 he was getting 20mil a movie

...compare that to everyone not named Robert Downey Jr only getting 200k for Avengers

With the way MARVEL is with their actors & actresses & money. I doubt The Rock will ever want to do a MARVEL movie

Snitch made under 50 mill, if the Rock got paid 20 mill that would have been half the budget to still be wildly successful. And then a couple of ensemble pictures with varying degrees of involvement. Yea, I'm definitely surprised he gets 20 mill a picture (skeptical thats what he got for Snitch).

look up three posts

however i can guarantee that if Marvel offers him anything with a "K" behind it he aint gonna be Luke Cage

also the Rock produced Snitch

now that the "Mighty" group of some kind is going to debut soon, I wonder what this means for the inclusion of Cage in some future Marvel film projects..

I hope they get someone "hood" to play Cage, because the Rock is either too expensive or too likeable.

He said too likeable. So, apparently we shouldn't like Luke Cage?

I didn't see where it says Rock makes 20 Mil a picture, though. I'm sure he can ask for a big amount at this point, but I'm not sure he's that guy that doesn't show up unless he makes X.

20 mil is what he got for Scorpion King...his star has gotten bigger since...so he is either still at 20 mil or getting more since he has been in some big movies...also it is not outrageous to think he may drop his price for a role he may want to play...at this point I'd like to see how the negotiations for the Avengers goes before anything else.
For some perspective...Hemsworth's status is nowhere near Johnson's is and he got 5mil for Snow white

Honestly... now I can't get that out of my head. Rock would be incredible as Lex Luthor.

As for his paycheck, I'm sure it depends. I wouldn't put it past him taking 20 or close to it on Fast 5/6/GI Joe...

I'd still rather see Rock play Wonderman or Namor, but thats ann interesting choice to pickk him to play Luther. I'm sure the proper camera angles could ensure that he doesn't seem larger than Cavill. If they are offering 200k to play Cage better go with an unknown, or COOL J!!! How come this man has never been picked to play a superhero role! The man cracks 400 frikin pounds! Or, Terry Crrews!!!
