I think he's going to already be this big ruler of the part of the universe, possibly the universal church of truth treat him as a god of sorts. So he's kind of in the background of the movie, and maybe the guardians are going after him/the UCoT and get caught up in Nova Corps and Yondu at the same time as well.

That's what I aim thinking. He rules a galaxy wide empire. Uses the Church to decieve everyone in his empire into thinking he's some great leader, like a god.

Now if the rule is the same as the comics, no ET is to step foot on earth, well..Thanos sent Loki. Sure, he can invade on his own, but if he is trying to build up an image using the church, well then it won't look too good to his people if he destroys earth, so he found a loophole till he can get the IG.

just some fun speculation, but he's going to have a role.

I hope so. If we found out his role had been decreased in favor of the Nova Corps and Ronan or whoever, I'd be pissed

I just don't think he ever had a big role, sounds to me like they're saving him for A3. No doubt he'll have a presence just not a big one.

Other than the fact that two of the lead characters in this film *require* Thanos in their backstory, and the fact that the creator of Thanos, Jim Starlin, said specifically that Thanos would be in GOTG and TA2?

Other than that, yeah, no reason at all to think Thanos would be in the movie

^ Yup.

Still, you don't put a character in an after credit scene then not even have him show up till later.

A villain can be a character in a movie without being a main threat..without even being close to a threat. If my guess is right, that Thanos is somehow ruling, then he can very well be a main character without being the villain.

Sure Ronan may show up, but to me, Lee Pace is Warlock. I strongly, strongly doubt he's playing nova. This movie is probably going to be much bigger than anticipated, I HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt the gist of this movie will be the guardians escaping from the space police..from the Nova Corps.

Ron Perlman as Thanos Of Titan. For those who doubt, listen to him in the last episode of AFRO SAMURAI. Take out some of that faux cowboy accent and his dialog could read as something Thanos would say in a Starlin era comic book. Just my two cents.

Again if they go this route, there is zero reason to do full cgi/mo-cap:

The hulked out designs in the comics of the pre- and post- Annihilation Thanos were rather silly anyway. A reasonably proportioned design with an actual neck would work muuuch better in live action. They can use tried and true (and cheap!) techniques to make him bigger in proportion to the human characters. Maybe some cg touch-ups in post. Why even bother with mocap?

Perlman would be great btw, his age notwithstanding. If anything, he might be too "on the nose" given his resume.

Make-up with just cg touchups should be the rule when its feasible. Only Hulk and inhuman creatures should be all cg

Hey, what about Terry O'Quinn for Thanos?

I think he's got the cool and collected yet sinister thing going for him, see the end of Lost.

Let's just use common sense here.

1. Fury end credit in IM 1, then appears in IM2
2. Thor's Hammer end credit in IM2, we then get his movie.
3. The Cube end credit in Thor, then we see it in Cap.

There is no way they're waiting until A3 to give Thanos something to do. I fully expect him to become more involved in the situation somewhere between T:TDW, GOTG, and A2.

I can see Thanos as the puppet master of something larger.

His presence is important and there will be whispers of him in the very least. Drax exist to slay Thanos. Gamora is raised and trained by him.

We have seen his face. The Titan has to show up.

Indubitably.
TA1, he's in the shadows. TA2, he's given a name, lines, and a palpable presence. TA3, he kicks the Avengers' asses, before getting outwitted by somebody who's dumber than a box of rocks. (That's how Thanos always gets defeated in the comics.)

Again, I think he will be in both. I don't understand why a lot of people are of the mindset of him "showing up as THE villain" thing. It seems pretty clear to me, with all the speculation as to where he will appear, that he won't just be a "villain" but a character. He will have a role in gotg, and he more than likely will have a role in A2. Even if they are big roles, that doesn't mean he IS the villain.

Just because he MAY not be THE villain in A2, doesn't mean he couldn't have a huge role in the movie.

The people that think he will be in A3, myself inculded don't think that will be when he shows up.

Someone please explain to me, WHY can't thanos have a big role in these movies, but not be the THREAT of said film, but not have his climax till avengers 3? that's how I see it. He'll be there in gotg as a main character, he'll be there in A2, there may still be stuff going on, on earth, but he'd still have a decent role..maybe he'll appear in other movies in phase 3, and then he has his conclusion where he is the ONLY threat in avengers 3...at that point, he wouldn't be teased up until then, cause he would have been in plenty of movies.

i think thanos is going to be the first villain in the MCU who isn't just a villain, but a reoccurring character

To an extent. But more than that. Loki was in avengers, thor 1, thor 2, and thor 3.

I think we'll be seeing Thanos in more than just gotg, and future avengers films

I thought THANOS was always presented as a self destructive sort? Did not Warlock tell him that he was always bringing his plans to failure because of his arrogance and because secretly, on an unconscious level he feels he is unworthy of the power he feels he must attain?

Correct. That's pretty much exactly what he said in Infinity Gauntlet
