and I never thought I'd be saying that about a Thor sequel a few months ago.
Yeah but people say it will wear off by next year (I strongly disagree) and that CA 2 will not get a large increase in BO compared to the first movie.
Again I strongly disagree (if the movie is good).

Casting doesnt always tell the tale, But CA2 did cast Robert Redford.
I wouldnt count that film out by any means .

Can we get "Thor" put in the title of this thread and a poll added?

OKAY I Really REALLY doubt even after Avengers Thor will top a billion world wide but I added up to that amount on the poll.
Personally I think he has a chance to make 850 mil world wide. I keep hearing people who didn't SEE Thor until Avengers went back and watched Thor and are now fans!

$600 Million WW.

That's big, but we just can't expect Iron Man numbers.

People expected TA to get $800 million it got $1.5 billion.
People expected IM3 to get $700-800 million it got nearly $1.2 billion.
People now expect Thor 2 to get $600-700 million and Cap 2 to get $500 million.
The range for these movies is anywhere $500 million + and I mean ANYWHERE.

Well The Avengers/Iron Man movies had Robert Downey Jr and we all know part of the big success of the first Iron Man movies is Robert Downey Jr.

In November and next year, we will see if Thor/Captain America can have a movie as successful as an Iron Man film, now that the Avengers movie (with the help of RDJ) gave them more exposure.

IM1 only made 130 million more than Thor, it's not like there was a huge difference in their grosses. Plus the title role in Thor was played by an unknown, eople act if IM1 made a billion dollars.

Now Thor is pretty much just as well known as IM not to mention Loki who was the main villain in a 1.5 million dollar film.

With a 113 milion dollar opening I think it's safe to say MOS is gonna land somewhere in the 500M-600M range.

Eh, considering its phenomenal success in OS markets so far 600 million+ seems to be an almost forgone conclusion.

130 million difference is still HUGE. IM1 was THE first Marvel superhero film other than the Spider-Man films to cross the 300 million mark at domestic box-office and it wasn't even released in 3D. Also the ticket prices from 2008 and 2011 were not the same and it was the first film of MCU. Even if most of the mainstream viewers have no idea about MCU in general. I think Thor being part of MCU still helped it to gain more interest. Iron Man 1 didn't have to rely on the MCU branding that much compare to the other MCU films.

Nah it's not, especially when you think about how easier IM is to translate on screen and RDJ was already a known actor.

Then why did TIH only make half of Thor's gross? It was part of the MCU too And Chris Hemsworth wasn't more popular than Ed Norton.

Anyway star power =/= High BO.

with the sequel boost, the avengers boost and the loki fangirl boost I'd say the sky is the limit. also: no big box office competition. Thor 1 fought hard against one of those Fast & Furious films. Thor 2 won't

It's not huge? 130 million is a massive number and is more than 25% of Thor's gross. That's a huge difference.

For two weeks, sure. How well it does after November 22 will be the big test.

We shall see what MOS does against WWZ which opens Friday...I think that when the official trailer comes out in July Disney will ramp up the advertising for TTDW...I think we will see a 100 Million plus opening weekend..But I will reserve judgement until I see the trailer which should finally give us a feel for the story...If it knocks our socks off as I hope then all bets are off.. We could have the potential for IM3 numbers...

The release date is messing with my projections. I have no idea how this thing is gonna play out at that time of the year.
