Default How long should the new series go on for?

Says it all in the title? But, how long should the new series go for? Should it be a new trilogy (excluding Justice League)? Should it go further, maybe 5 films? Should it be a finite series again with an ending?

No ending. There should be a jump at some point when all the JL films and Bruce as Batman solos are out of ideas...and they just go into Batman Beyond. It could be the same Bruce re-cast, or ignore the continuity. Do it so it's whatever we want it to be.

Besides JL, I think it should go past a trilogy while Bruce is Batman. By the third film they should start building the bat-family. There's enough rogues to keep going to a possible double trilogy. Different directors, etc.

Set up a loose continuity like the Bond verse

I imagine that now with a shared universe, WB will not allow reboots anymore. So I expect it to go on forever.

Directors/cast/style will still change every few films though.

That'd be so great if it went on forever. I'd be so happy if there was a new DC universe every 10-15 years

3 movies.

By then the cast of Justice League will be old and it will be time for a fresh reboot around 2030 after a Kingdom Come and Dark Knight Returns movie.

excluding DC projects not featuring Batman:

2016 - introduce new Batman in Worlds Finest movie
2017 - Justice League
2019 - Batman reboot
2020 - Justice League 2
2022 - Batman 2
2023 - Justice League 3 (trilogy ended)
2025 - Batman 3 (trilogy ended)
2027 - The Dark Knight Returns
2028 - Kingdom Come
2030 - reboot Batman and Justice League

Can we get a poll please?

Trilogy
Quadrilogy
5 movie series
Endless continuity (like Bond)

There wont be a Dark Knight Returns. Too much of the first half (and the very end somewhat) was used in TDKRises. The title will make the majority think Nolan/Bale are returning in their continuity.

Imma bout to blow your mind...

but what if they did 20 years from now?

People would view it as a crazy remake of The Dark Knight Rises.

I really want to see an ongoing Batman series. Not another trilogy, or anthology. Treat Batman like the James Bond of comic book films. As I've said many times, we are going to get the most faithful representation of the comics in film when we get a series with longevity.

Nolan's trilogy definitely contains the most faithful films we've ever seen of Batman. However, we can get more faithful adaptations with a series where the film makers can at least come up with some sort of plan of what they're going to do three films from the first and so forth. They will be able to set up more of a continuity.

I say go on indefinitely. You can do a ton of stories that way.

Indefinitely. Batman can go as long and as hard as James Bond, if you afford to let him.

If a mod could put a poll, that'd be grand.

Anyway, I think the series should have a conclusion. If you look at what are often considered some of Batman's greatest stories are his origin, ending. That goes for many other heroes too, including Superman, Green Lantern and Flash.

Preferably, I'd like to see a 5 film saga (minus Justice League):

Film 1- Details Batman's early years with brief expositionary scenes of his origin. The main villains would be Penguin and Riddler, perhaps Red Hood could be a psychopathic small time gang/hitmen. Cobblepot acts as the final nail in the coffin of Gotham's stand against corruption, solidifying Bruce's belief for Batman.

Film 2- Set several years later, Gotham is now accustomed to supercrime. This would be the real departure from what has come recently in film as Bruce begins establishing his Arthurian legend with taking in Dick as Robin. Villains could perhaps be Deathstroke (the assassin who killed the Graysons?) with Two-Face as the main villain.

Film 3- Based on Arkham Asylum: A Serious House On A Serious Earth, as well as the two Batman: Arkham games. This would be a deeply psychological tale that explores whether Bruce is as much a lunatic as those he fights, hint towards Zur-En-Arrh. Dick has a reduced role and hopefully a Nightwing spinoff instead.

Film 4- Based on Jason Todd's various return storylines. Fairly simple really, further explore the idea Bruce is a dangerous madman, who endangers others.

Film 5- Based on Batman RIP. Serves as the conclusion to the series (or at least this era of creativity). Batman vs the ultimate evil. The ending would be like the closing panels of Batman #700 and #683.

Just anything but an ongoing series. Three, four, five, six, seven, whatever. Just don't make it endless. It takes a lot of the fun out of it, in my opinion. You're tied to one version of every character from now on. It's just too limiting in the stories you can tell.

I like how Nolan did the origin story and an ending story in his more down to earth universe. And it was done in a more cohesive trilogy, which was rather easy because it was so closed-off from the rest of the DC universe. This benefits the reboot.

Now this more sci-fi or horror (I hope!) reboot that is OPEN to a larger universe...they can do all the "in-between" stories and let it go on past a trilogy. Not making too many jumps.

From the post-origin stories in Year Two-ish all the way into a mid-40s veteran Batman who is working with Robin.

They can deliver 6 movies and it would be fresh, of course they would need to recast.

7 Films. Tell a complete story, an epic one, but complete it, don't let it run into the ground and hope for a revival like the Bond films have had, especially as, unlike Bond, one of Batman's best stories is his origin story, and so everytime it goes down, the next team is likely to reboot it, especially if other properties it's connected to ie Superman have been rebooted.

Tell the Quintessentail ultimate Batman saga. Do it.

Depends on how good it is, haha.

Ideally I'd like to see something like this with the Bat family:

- Year One type of accelerated origin - no world travel or 8 year old Bruce shown.
- Intro of Dick Grayson.
-Outro of Dick Grayson, intro of Jason Todd
- Red Hood
- Batman Beyond

I wanted to include The Killing Joke, but I don't expect that many movies.

Even James Bond gets rebooted these days (Casino Royale).

Of course the problem was they got to a point where they really needed to rethink the franchise. But honestly ignoring Casino Royale, Skyfall could easily be in continuity(if you also ignore the introduction of certain characters). But yeah there's still that looseness.

I think Batman and DC(hell Marvel too) should just have loose continuities. I think audiences will sort itself out when they notice that a new actor is playing Batman after 35 years.

They should definitely go the James Bond route. The cold war ended in the early 90's and Bond was still able to remain relevant for another decade before it became stall and irrelevant in desperate need of a redefinition. To throw away old conventions, create some new, while still letting the character shine. The difference is James Bond was created around a certain geo-political climate, Batman on the other hand has a much more contemporary concept that can always place him in a modern world. If they focus on making one great stand alone film at a time, don't rush new stories and characters, and don't jump any sharks they could do a continuous Batman film series for a long time.

They'll be good films and bad ones but it will be a more substainable business model void of unnecessary reboots retelling the same story.

I actuall thought his 2 first films could easily be set in the grander dc universe, felt like classic Batman to me
