I'm wondering if the Shredder mask will just fully cover his face, eyes included, something Darth Vader-esque, but that's probably just wishful thinking.

Casting a 57 year-old white male with a unique face and slight build who isn't known for his physical presence to play a ninja master who's features are mostly hidden and who'll require one hell of a padded suit and several stunt/fight doubles to come across as remotely threatening doesn't really add up to me, especially when the guy looks like he could play a military general in his sleep but eh, I suppose all speculation is valid at this point.
We shall see. |

Then what is the point in getting an actor to do that when they could have just used a nobody?

I just remember him as the goofy boyfriend to Grace on Grace Under Fire. LOL
None the less, not sure what to think of the casting...I still hope for hope that Krang is in this as the ruler of Dimension X with the Technodrome intact

What an interesting turn of events. I know it hasn't been confirmed but it reads like they are going to use the Col. thing. Seeing how The Foot look like military, I'm counting on that massive change being made. When I was a kid and was obsessed with TMNT I loved the original concept for Shredder (Shredder being an ugly little alien didn't set well with me in the 2000 series) but this military deal sounds even lazier than Shredder is a ****** looking alien. Again I don't have a deep emotional involvement in TMNT anymore outside of nostalgia and being curious how Bay ( as a producer) will handle this project.
I understand why he would rip off the Transformers movies (if Shredder is military), they are mega hits. It makes perfect business sense. |

Fan backlash has even caused new, prospective series to be cancelled, such as the Wonder Woman pilot in 2011. So, although money talks, backlash speaks volumes and with this film receiving so much of it, you'd think they'd be more cautious of changing important story and character detail. Without the fans' support, there's a huge chance it'll all backfire in the box office. A good business proposition should take this into account.

Uh-oh....this "is not the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles you've seen before. This is new...this is a Michael Bay production. This is freaky". Good lord. Now I'm all kinds of worried, yet again. What a freaking roller coaster ride this has all become. At this point, I'm kind of wishing they had just done a straight Nickelodeon adaptation or even Nick animated movie. Not sure why this "version" of the TMNT has to be so "different" and "freaky". With that said, I'm pretty confident Fichter really doesn't know much about the TMNT or their universe, so maybe the "freaky" things to him are established canon material from the comics...Who knows. |

Interviewer: "What was your reaction when you got this part? What made you want to do this?"
Fichtner: "I don't know, that's a tough one. It just felt like...I should do this." Of course I'm paraphrasing here, but there doesn't seem to be much enthusiasm in his answer. Really? You're playing The Shredder, a popular villain figure in an equally popular franchise, and you're answer is 'I don't know'? ![]()

The correct answer is I want to get paid a lot of money being in a big Michael Bay movie. Fichtner is just polite enough to not say that.
Plus he's worked with Michael Bay like twice before, so Bay probably likes him and asked him to do it.

Only in a place like this would a loss for words be received so negatively.
The man seems genuinely excited and enthusiasm is important when it comes to actors. But alas, he's not an Asian man, so...

We'll see what happens because I like Fitchhner. Again, Shredder, from his conception and look, sells himself. If they made anything changes that makes no logical sense, like let's say not making him an armored dude, then it's not an improvement. GIVE ME THE ARMOR.

Considering the puns the Shredder made in the old cartoon I doubt he ever was native Japanese. As long as he kept his helmet on he also appeared "white" to me.
![]() But yes, Fitchner seem kinda wrong. Wrong race, too old, too scrawny. Perhaps they will CGI his eyes to look Asian ![]() |

He's of Asian descent but yeah, he's from LA. Morever, he could pass for Japanese.
And for most of the fandom, as long as you look the part, that's good enough. It doesn't have anything to do with a Japanese Actor vs. an American Actor, white or not, talented or not. But even still, he was basically a stand in. So was Francis Chau who played him in TMNT II. The voice actor for Shredder in TMNT I and II (David McCharen) did the real performance, and He's a white guy. IMO, it doesn't matter or not if the actor who playes him looks the part because The Shredder A) Has scarring that extensively covers his face and B) His face is never shown do to his helmet.
