I am actually totally down with that choice.

I really think this incarnation of lex should be a physically fit guy in his prime not some older actor who might look good bald.

Lex should be like superman's evil human reflection. I agree that mconaughey would be a great choice and not one that would pop up right away.

I'm not sure that 'duality' is the way to go, simply because it crops up in almost every story of this kind. I agree that Lex should be more youthful than in the past, however.

The most attention I ever pay to Matthew McConaughey is when Family Guy is making fun of him. I couldn't say I have much feelings on him one way or another, but I agree I want Lex to be in his physical prime

Okay, this may be a bit of Bizarro world career resurrection, but I have an inkling that Vince Vaughan could play a superbly malevolent Lex. There is something in the worldliness of his voice and eyes, and the nonchalance of his presence, that may make cold hearted villainy particularly chilling.

I like Cranston and McConaughey as choices for Lex but I think I'd lean more towards the latter as I'd like a Lex in his fighting prime so to speak.

How about merging this with the LL casting thread, Hunter?

I like Matthew McConaughey and all, but I have a sneaking suspicion that he wouldn't be getting half as much support for this role if Nolan hadn't cast him in his latest movie.

I've always thought he was likable enough but the role that got me on the "He's actually a good actor" bandwagon was The Lincoln Lawyer.

Just an outside the box suggestion but I think Daniel Sunjata would make for a great Lex.

Aaaah, that explains everything. In Nolan they trust etc etc.

I think it depends on the type of Lex they want

If they're going for more of the "younger competitive Lex", then I would suggest True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard .

If they're going the traditional "older guy " route then I'd pick Person of Interests's Enrico Colantoni.

The middle ground "Hollywood thesp" choice I would go with would be Matt Damon.

Funny enough in all honesty his involvement in that film never even snuck in my head once when i thought of him for lex. I actually forgot he was even in the film as i haven't started paying much attention to it yet.

It was more some of his recent roles and arguably him in the wolf and wallstreet that really made me think of him as good for the role.

No Cranston. I want him as LA Jim Gordon for Batman's reboot.

Not sure who could be Luthor, but i'll give it some thought.

Seeing Lewis with a shaved head makes me want him as Lex even more. I've always been a fan of the idea.

I think Jon Hamm is a great pick. If his Don Draper character is any indication, he can do a good job of playing charming, convincingly getting the public on his side, while he has more selfish intentions underneath.

I also don't think they need to make him bald.

As with all casting threads on the internet, he has already been mentioned somewhere.

He's a good actor and would probably do well, though there is nothing particular about the role of Lex Luthor that would seem to recommend him in particular.

Idris Elba won't have time, since he's already playing Green Lantern, Black Panther, James Bond, Luke Cage, Thanos, Dr. Strange, Cyborg and Martian Manhunter.

I just made this list of actors I think should be considered to play Luthor:

Iain Glen

Ralph Fiennes

Thomas Kretschmann

Mark Strong ... he's perfect but maybe too obvious

Jason Isaacs

David Thewlis

Mads Mikkelsen

Rhys Ifans

Jim Caviezel

Matthew McConaughey
