John won't do Episode VIII or IX most likely, look at his age. Michael will be the one that takes over. Which is good because he is amazing as well. But I'm using logic with this situation. Most people in their 80's don't have the mental capacity they once had. That includes creativity not always of course. But I look at my own grandparents in their mid 80's and they were not what they once were in a lot of their artistic endeavors my Grandma is a painter and she was a great one too. But as they get older they just can't always do it as well anymore. Now John is an exception for sure, he is the best. But sooner or later even he just may want to hang up the hat. I'm betting he has one more in him. But by the time Episode VIII is ready for scoring he will be at least 85. By Episode IX he will be around 87. There is always possibilities but I'm being real with it. Episode VII ya he will most likely do it. Afterwards I'm betting not.

It depends. John is damn healthy for being 81. But he is...81. Unless he can pull a 'Shatner' (who seems like he's gonna live healthy for the next ten years..) I wouldn't be surprised if Michael Gia got involved as a shadow just in case. Key words: just in case.

That's how I see it. Of course he could pull it off, and that would be great. But I will just try to be more real of what may happen. And Michael is awesome anyways so I'm not worried. But it will be great to hear some more music from John in a galaxy far far away.

Yes, I also hear Gia eats babies. He should be publicly stoned.

But if Williams does Ep7 and JJ doesn't go on with Eps8-9, do you think we'll still get Gia?

I think so. I was rooting for him even before we knew we would get JJ. I mean of course they could get someone else. but with Michael's strong ties with Disney (John Carter/Up) I'm pretty sure he would be their top pick.

Michael's score for STID is just amazing. My favorite track is The Kronos Warlet (which clearly must be from a Klingon scene). But the first two minutes I can just imagine a quick battle with two lightsabers, the hero trying to escape from the villain. I don't know why. But still great stuff.

Wait, is the STID score out? I've only listened to the 5 tracks and the alleged bonus one.

The STID soundtrack was amazing, as expected. The theme variation this time around really upped the ante. But Spock's theme from ST09 is gone.

Williams/Giacchino collaboration or bust.

I need "Battle of the Heroes" meets "Buying the Space Farm", dammit.

it just wouldn't feel like Star Wars without John Williams.

at the very least, you need to use the main theme.

it's definitely not SW without that theme.........lol

John might be privy to what is coming up in the trilogy and might write notes to be continued with if he can't make it for VIII and IX

Part of me feels it wouldn't be Star Wars without John Williams, but another part of me is very curious what Giacchino would do. I honestly can say that, because I am so torn, if either of those names are officially announced, I wouldn't be disappointed.

With JJ saying he wants to respect the originals, but do something new with the next trilogy, having either Giacchino shadow to take over or start out with Episode VII while keeping some of the original themes (especially the Main Theme), seems to fit that plan.

Ever since he scored the first Medal of Honor game, I knew he could be someone to take over for John Williams.

I don't think it matters how old John Williams is. If he's healthy enough to do the score, he'll do it. This has pretty much been his passion his whole life.

What's the name of this theme that is playing in the background while Williams is speaking from 0:36 to about 1:35?

Fantastic news! Not a Giacchino hater (I actually thoroughly enjoy his work), but it's awesome to have John Williams for as long as we can.
