He can't. Feige said he has no where else to go. Whatever Feige says goes.

Feige lies.

They actually had the freedom to take Steve ANYWHERE they want. They simply chose to keep him with SHIELD, possibly because they'd like to have a SHIELD movie with Fury and Natasha in it but don't want to/can't make one.

Which is not to say that SHIELD isn't a valid option. It could be a plot point that Steve agrees to roll with SHIELD and swallow his principles because he doesn't feel he can strike out on his own. And Steve does have a history of serving alongside SHIELD, but that's mostly majorly through his association with Sharon, and you probably know how I'd go from here....

The older Chris becomes the more he'll look like Steve to me.

Somewhat OT, but I'm currently watching Sunshine, and damn, this has got to be the movie that made Marvel decide that Chris should play Cap.

Chris' character, Mace, is pretty much what I'd have liked Avengers!Cap to be, though perhaps with less of the cold pragmatism.

He had a great show of talent in Avengers, especially during the Battle of New York, when he's giving his teammates their orders. That was Captain America at his best.

I think thats a big part of why Avengers worked so well. They played their rolesand archetypes so well that it created some interesting division. Ie Caps personality clashing with iron, thor clashing with iron man. Cap really came into his own being the man he was in WW 2 while awkwardly realizing he was in a new age.

I thought it was a very interesting dynamic, and it worked really well.

I absolutely agree with you that Sunshine is probably the role that made Feige and Co. realize Evans could nail Cap's authoritativeness. I think, though, that Evans managed to balance out the authoritative tone that Cap has with a very natural old-fashioned charm that was well suited to where Steve Rogers' arc was at the point Avengers took place. For me he managed to make a very believable leader and sound like he had just woken up from the 1940s. The tone he achieved for Mace is too brittle, hard-edged for Steve Rogers, but Mace is definitely closer to Cap's personality than any other Chris Evans' character.

I wouldn't be surprised if Steve develops more of an edge though in CA:TWS and TA2.

This. The reason Avengers worked was because Whedon made sure the script and the acting onscreen captured each personality and then meshed and balanced them together, almost like a master choreographer. Which Whedon is, in a sense - a storytelling/dialogue choreographer.

Indeed and I liked on how even the Hulk had no qualms in working with Captain America at all; it just goes to show on how much respect the people in the MCU has for Steve.

More Chris pics from Tumblr

The last one is sort of a duplicate, but who cares? He's gorgeous!

Is a shirtless scene too much to hope for? I'd settle for a tight t-shirt workout scene like TA (or should that be T-shirt & A? ).

I really hope there is no makeover scene in TWS where there is a montage of him becoming accustomed to modern day fashion.
Not likely, but possible.
