Mm not familiar with Pak. But good to know that Action is worth picking up. I haven't read my Action Vol. 1 yet, because if I'm done, I wouldn't have a TPB to continue :/ (you know the situation lol)

Can any of you guys explain to me the ending? It was tied together pretty well but lemme get this straight-

The beginning of the comic, where it's set in Japan, the creature falling out if the sky is obviously the creature that Lane is hiding from Supes. But then in the epilogue, was it Perry who was talking about his great uncle? And how he used those binoculars to see the "tragedy" coming down? See, was that supposed to be the little kid in the beginning? But during Perry's speech, it had a meanwhile going on of a guy that was found on the boat with his eyes burned out. Was THAT who he was referring to as his great uncle? Any straightening out would be great. Thanks

How did you guys feel about the first issue of Batman/Superman? I was pretty mixed on it, but overall I thought it was enjoyable. Enough for me to finish out the first arc, at least.

This is the first time I've ever had two Superman titles on my read list-Unchained and his Batman team up.

Morrison's run on Action was wacky as only Morrison can be, but it had some beautiful moments of brilliance, imo. And I just happen to enjoy his wildly imaginative ways, regardless. I also loved the Diggle issue after Morrison finished his run, but I was gonna drop it after that, knowing Scott Lobdell was taking over. Now I'm gonna read those issues just so I'm up to speed when Pak takes over. He did a great job for Marvel on Planet Hulk and Doctor Strange: Season One (the ONLY "Season One" I've really liked), and I think Batman/Superman is literally his first gig for DC, so I'm excited to see him jump onto the DC boat now, writing for my favorite hero, no less.

The great uncle wasn't the kid in the beginning - he FOUND the binoculars sifting through rubble. The kid died in the blast. Looks like the shadow of that monster was seared into the lenses of those binoculars, so I'm guessing that poor kid may have had the same thing happen to him that happened to the guy on the boat. Before he was eviscerated by the "bomb." I'm sure future issues will help clarify.

I really liked it, but didn't know what to makes of those last few pages until I read spoilers that helped me make sense of it all.

Interesting, interesting. I've had people tell me the same thins about Morrisson's run actually. A bit more positive but still with the fact that he wrote some brilliant classic Superman moments. I'm a bit of a Supes noob so I'm not familiar with these writers actually. Lobdell I've heard not so good things about but I'll give it a shot. I'm pretty open most of the time.

And thanks for the clarification. That makes much more sense.
So the guy on the boat ISN'T Perry's uncle? The great uncle who found the binos. We don't know who it is at this point right?

Yeah, I'm waiting for the next issue to explain some things. I think the only thing I didn't like about it was the first part with the bullying. How many times do we have to see a Middle-Eastern person getting bullied and have a hero step in and save him? I rolled my eyes hard at that. It would've worked fine with any kid. We didn't need the addition of that little cultural jab that's been done to death.

Lobdell is honestly one of my least-favorite writers I've ever encountered on any comic. I have a general rule now to avoid him at all costs, and I'm only making an exception this time so I'm not lost when Pak begins his run.

On the flip side, I think Grant Morrison is a genius, and one of the most imaginative writers in all of superhero comics. I just love his writing to bits, Action Comics included. He and Mark Waid are probably my favorite current superhero writers.

As for Pak, he was one of Marvel's best, imo, so I have high hopes for him on DC.

Yeah, I don't think either of those characters is Perry's uncle, and we're not supposed to know who the guy on the boat is yet.

I honestly didn't even think about that, lol. I just really like the character dynamics so far, and am intrigued by the direction it's apparently going in.

Lol on Lobdell. I mean I don't blame you. You don't wanna waste your money.
Oh okay. You made it sound like you weren't too fond of Morrison's run on Action by use of the word "wacky" haha. My bad. And thanks again for the clarification. Maybe we'll find out Wednesday

Ha, yeah "wacky," as in "eccentric," not "whack" as in "bad." It was, as all of Grant's stuff can get, kinda weird and "out there" sometimes, but I still dug it. A lot.

I skimmed through a bit and of course the cover shows it, but it has him in the t-shirt and jeans Supes get up right? Not really feeling that but if it's only for a small bit it's no big deal. I don't even know the context of it, so yeah.

Morrison's first arc is during his first year as Superman and he hasn't got his suit yet. The story deals heavily with other times so suited/unsuited show up during each others stories.

He wears the the suit at some point during the run. Like Llama said, Action's set 5 years before the main Superman title, so Superman's just starting out in it. Once you make peace with the jeans/t-shirt look, the art is actually quite good, imo.

Unchained #2 was awesome, I'm enjoying this book. This is the best Superman story I have read in years and it is excelling at getting the character of Superman with out compromising him.

Agreed. I'm a big Spidey fan and was enjoying the beginning of Superior Spider-Man a lot because it really wasn't what it seemed like at first. But now the recent issues imo are really bad. Not Spidey at all. So right now Unchained > Superior

Just came in here to agree with what y'all were saying: Unchained #2 was awesome. I think I'm just gonna go on pretending this is the main Superman title now.

That's kind of the point of the story in the first place.

I have no interest in Superman Unchained at all but has anybody here read Batman/Superman yet? I'm kinda curious about reading that one because of the prime Earth and Earth 2 crossover and all.

It's alright so far.

The first issue was confusing and not all that great, but the second issue is a big step up.

Real Superman's Weakness -Kryptonite: Silver Surfer in cross (with the understanding of the universe, he manipulated energy radiation like Kryptonite), Metallo, Lex Luthor's Warsuit, Batman w Kryptonite and maybe GL ! I read somewhere that Green lantern can be manipulated like Kryptonite radiation...

-Extreme amounts of force/impact: those with physical strength and powers similar Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Lobo, Doomsday, Darkseid and I also have seen Zoom can punch with force and speed with exponentially, enough to hurt Superman. I think the manipulation light of GL can also cause strong physical effects for Superman and he actually did several times in the comics. summary others in DC/Marvel possess such power

-Magic. (The person on this board argues that magic only slows him down but can't kill him): Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel/Shazam, Black Adam is frequently, Thor in cross, Spectre in Sliver Age, PC or at the present time....(Except Superman-Prime from Earth-Prime aka Superboy Prime and Superman Golde one million)

-Obliterating his mind (Psionic, Telepathy): Martian Manhunter...

-Red solar radiation: Captain Atom, perhaps the silver surfer in cross....

-Manipulation of extreme energy, manipulation of molecules, atoms or subatomic-This is a similar category near factor Red solar/Kryptonite radiation light and manipulate the reality: ex: Darkseid's Omega vision, energy blasts Green Lantern, Captain Atom, Firestrom, Zob's heat vision. Reality Warping: Mxyzptlk, Hal Parallax.....
