$200 for all of that doesn't seem too bad. I would've lowered it down to $220 or somewhere arounds first, to see if it sold for that. Still, looks like you've got a good chunk down for your pre-order.

Well the first AC made a really bad impression with me and I had no interest in more titles. Even though the game had positive reviews, I didn't believe made that much of a turnaround to regain interest.

Can't wait to get this Halo 3 to finally see what's so special about this series...

You should believe it. I was not a fan of AC at all, but I really enjoyed ACII; it improved the original in basically every way. I mean, if you're going to get Halo 3 for free just to see what's special about the series, you might as well get ACII free to see if the hype is right.

That's the idea. We'll see how it goes from there.

Family Sharing could return to Xbox One, says Microsoft's Whitten

218

Xbox corporate VP Marc Whitten wishes that Microsoft had done a better job explaining the features of the Xbox One, many of which were removed when the company reversed the console's "always-online" connection policy. Speaking to IGN, Whitten responded to a recent online petition asking Microsoft to re-reverse its decision and re-implement features like Family Sharing, which would have allowed users to share their digital games with other Xbox One owners via Xbox Live. "The thing that's really gratifying is that people are excited about the types of features that are possible," he said, "and it's sort of shame on us that we haven't done as good of a job as we can to make people feel like that's where we're headed."

"We need to do more work to talk about what we're doing because I think that we did something different than maybe how people are perceiving it." For one thing, he said, Family Sharing isn't necessarily gone for good. "If [Family Sharing] is something that people are really excited about and want, we're going to make sure that we find the right way to bring it back." It would require additional engineering to enable Family Sharing after always-online was dropped, so the feature was removed from the Xbox One launch window.

Whitten said Microsoft "learned a lot of lessons" over the course of the Xbox One's reveal, and the company will be "engaging more with the community" going forward. "I think it's the number one thing I'd want to do if I went back, was have the conversation more open and more complete."

Best Buy opens Xbox One Day One pre-orders, Gamestop officially out

27

Best Buy pre-orders for the Xbox One Day One Edition are now live (again), while many other retailers are quickly selling out of their stocks.

The Xbox One Day One Edition is no longer up for pre-order at Gamestop "due to high demand," a spokesperson tells us. Those interested in learning when more consoles are available at Gamestop can sign up for the mailing list.

Gamestop halted PS4 pre-orders for the same reason on July 9, so if an intense feeling of déjà vu just assaulted anyone, it's totally normal. Or you're in the Matrix.

Here's the latest next-gen retailer run-down: Amazon is out of Xbox One Day One consoles, but it has the standard edition, and it also has standard PS4 bundles. Wal Mart has Day One editions and a variety of PS4 launch bundles for pre-order. Best Buy, of course, now has Xbox One Day One for pre-order, along with the PS4.

Give AC2 a try for a few hours. It doesn't take long to get going/good. If you don't like it then you know this series is not for you.

I had gotten started. I totaly forgot about the Desmond parts. Feel like the series might have done without it. Have not gotten too far. Havn't gotten to the murdering bits yet just now getting to know Ezio's family at the moment. So far so good.

I think it could have done without also (although I haven't played AC III). Yeah, I love the family stuff & getting to see Ezio's background. That's what really got me invested in this character.

Indie developers cautiously optimistic about self-publishing on Xbox One

26

Microsoft's reversal of its publishing philosophy for the Xbox One has obvious and wide-reaching implications for the indie development community. While the original plan mandated that developers release games through a third-party publisher or broker a deal with Microsoft itself, indies will now be able to self-publish. Furthermore, retail Xbox One SKUs will function as development units, which historically are more expensive and more difficult to acquire than off-the-shelf models.

"Ideally, this news could have been broadcast more proudly and loudly months ago, giving indies more time to prepare strategies for upcoming games," Minicore Studios founder and CEO John Warren told us, "but I suppose they don't owe anyone that courtesy. We know now, so now we can prepare for life with a Microsoft console, which is something I wouldn't have said yesterday."

Warren and his team at Minicore are in the process of Kickstarting PC, Mac and Xbox 360 versions of their latest project, Laika Believes: The Sun at Night. "I think releasing on Xbox One without a publisher is a big step forward, of course, but the fact that (eventually) I'll be able to use my retail console as our dev kit is huge," he added. "My secondary (maybe flailing and futile) hope is that the fees for publishing won't be insane. It's one thing to only have to shell out $600 for a dev kit, but quite another if we have to spend another $10k on publishing fees. My hope is they'll be content with 30 percent of revenue and be done with it."

Cautious optimism was a consistent theme among most of the indie developers we reached out to, though some had greater reservations over Microsoft's inner machinations than others. Continue Reading

I'd love a updated opinion from Oddword Inhabitants' Lorne Lanning on the Xbox One. Who has become someone against Microsoft. I love his opinions on the industry.

It's kind of amazing that in a single generation MS did so much for indie developers with the way they handled XBLA, and at the same time managed to also kill just about any goodwill with them with the way they handled XBLA. So strange. Hope this ends up well, though, and this caution optimism is rewarded in the long run. I think the indie market is going to keep growing as time goes on.

I wish the rumors about kinect-less cheaper models in 2014 had been true. That was actually enough to finally get me to buy one.

Sadly...they are false. :/

At some point (not at launch) MS will allow indie developers to unlock any Xbox One to be used as a dev kit. It hasn't been specified much beyond that, i.e. if there is a fee, what kind of hardware access limitations there will be, etc.

Along with that, MS will allow indie devs to self publish on the platform.
