I'm willing to find the scene
And that moment is great, she talked like she was more like his biological mother

I think in essence she was his real mother. The thing with his father and mother happened when he was VERY young, plus he couldnt remember it, so for all intents and purposes, she was his real mother. And one of the few people who seemed to treat him well as a child/teenager.

Well, last night I watched it for the 10th anniversary, and its still awesome. The CGI still stands up really well, and the desert battle scene is still amazing, amazing imagery in the final battle on Blu-ray as well, still love this movie.

I watched this again a few months ago and it really does age well. I always liked it but after not seeing it for a few years I can say now it's fantastic. Truly one of a kind. Ang Lee had the most powerful pulse of a comic character I think I've seen on film. It's quite accurate to the psychodrama of Peter David's comics but also keeps the flair and action that can still rival many of today's CBMs. The military fight sequence at the end is still my favorite "Hulk Smash" scene ever. It channeled everything this creature can do.

And Bana's performace is so understated and powerful. Same with Elfman's score. I loved that Betty served a purpose compared to the usual shoehorned girl. Loved Elliot as the General as well, he never gets enough credit for it. Great secondary villain.

All the criticism it got back in the day really doesn't make sense to me now. Like none of the liberties struck out to me as being any weirder than stuff Nolan did, or Raimi with Spider-Man. Ang presented a wonderful tragedy. I think it's sort of fitting it had a mixed response. People weren't ready for that kind of movie then. Everybody expected another Spider-Man but ended up with a pre-Dark Knight (yeah, I'm gonna go there.)

I might watch it again this week. Fantastic movie and still probably in my top 3 favorites of the genre.

It's the tenth year anniversary, would be great if people were required to watch every superhero movie at the ten year mark to reassess their opinions.

I got this on Blu Ray the other day, looking forward to seeing it in HD

Couldnt agree more, I watched it about a month ago for the 10 year anniversary and I still love the movie, its lost non of its magic for me and is truly unique in the genre. The movie has aged superbly, the effects still stand up and the characterisation and deepness of the characters is superb. Plus, the final fight has grown on me a lot since 2003 as well. This will always be one of my favourites.

Honestly, the only real flaw the Ang Lee movie had was pacing. Granted, it was a *big* flaw. Especially the entire ending sequence, which destroyed the pacing utterly and should have been cut.

^^^In addition to the pacing I feel like another big problem was the casting of Bana and Connelly in the leads. I don't entirely dislike either of them as actors, but they both have a...prosaic quality to them, Connelly especially. And when put together, along with the slow placing....it was just the kiss of death.

I don't hate Ang Lee's Hulk, and I get, and even admire, what he was trying to do. The ideas that he had for Hulk seem kind of like what was in Peter David's run. Sam Elliot and Jennifer Connelly give really good performance, and Nick Nolte is enjoyable. The problem is the execution. It's fine for a movie to take its time and have quiet moments, but this was just so INDREDIBLY slow. The character talked about EVERYTHING, even stuff that wasn't really all that important, it got monotonous after a while. When the Hulk did appear, it was underwhelming, and Talbot was a douchebag for seemingly no reason. Also, that last twenty minutes was really confusing to me. It's not a bad movie, there is a lot to admire, but it just didn't quite fit together like I would have liked.

Elfman's score is still, imo, one of the best ever for a superhero movie. I enjoy it even moreso than his Spider-Man & Batman scores.

^His score is superb, it really adds to some scene's, like when Hulk is jumping in the desert, or Davids confession to Betty about why his and Bruce's lives are so screwed up.

I get chills when watching both scene's, and some of that is down to the superb music.

I would have to disagree, the movie was and still is superb, one of the best and most under-rated marvel movies even 10 years later. Nolan took a lot from Hulk to make his Batman trilogy and yet he gets praised while Ang Lee's movie is ridiculed. Although many people have re-watched it years later and find that they do enjoy the movie now. People just werent ready for it in 2003.

Were David tells Betty about what happened to Bruce's mother which lead to David being locked up. Great scene.

I don't want to restate all of my points about the movie, so if you want, you can read them, they're posted above. Nolan may have taken inspiration from Hulk, but he did it much better than Ang Lee did.

He did it different. You have to remember Batmans platform is set up for that. They want to see batman brooding even if there is not that much action. Not the Hulk with the Hulk they want to see action smashing and more action. Then this would have played better as an undertone.Sort of like the tv show.

Batman Dark in the front action in the back.Hulk action in the front Darkness in the back.

Get me?

That would have worked.
Spiderman action in the front darkness in the back.Punisher darkness in front action in the back.
Believe it or not the Hulk might have even been more sucessful if you had just switched some scenes.
For instance play the desert scene first then play the others as a flashback and you have a totally different flick or make that movie now after
incredible Hulk and Avengers.Ill tell you somthing different. The anxioity of seeing Hulk smash things up was too strong to sit through the dark mellow drama.

Batman Dark in the front action in the back.Hulk action in the front Darkness in the back.

Nolan did it better and made better movies, but he still took a lot of inspiration from what Ang did with Hulk, until BB no other CBM came close to delving into its main character/s as much as Hulk did. I think this is a big factor in why Hulk is so re-watchable.

Plus, the action scene's in Hulk put to shame every action scene in Nolans movies, so he didnt do that better, not by a long shot.

Nolan's action scenes fit Batman, just like Lee's action scenes fit Hulk. The difference is that I wasn't bored out of my skull when there wasn't action in Nolan's films.

Well thats you, I am never bored when watching Hulk even 10 years later and I have watched it A LOT, I liked the drama in the movie and love how much it delves into the psyche of Banner and Hulk.

The problem is the GA dont know how complex a character the Hulk is, the movie didnt do anything they havent explored in the comics, but as you said they just expect to see Hulk smashing stuff up. I personally love how deep Hulk got into the character though.

I concur. Even 10 years ago I could appreciate that the movie was doing something way different than the rest of the comic book films we had up till then.

The fight in the redwoods is still fun to me, I think that fights a little under rated. Love the shot that's pulled way back behind Betty's car, showing Hulk falling and that massive tree he just brought down.
