For a start, Stephen Fry as Alfred. He is a TV presenter, who does an impression of a clever person.

All right, regwec does not like Stephen Fry. Dully noted.

I do like him- I just think he is more of a comedian/TV personality than he is an actor. I must have watched about 1,000 hours of QI, so I clearly find him tolerable!

Interestingly enough, Fry used to be part of the comedy duo 'Fry & Laurie' with, you guessed it - Hugh Laurie.

Now he would make a good Alfred.

If Stephen Fry place Alfred, a Jeeves and Wooster reference is mandatory !

Freeze is a seminal comic book villain. Schwarzenegger should no more ruin him for you than Clooney could ruin Batman.

I just don't like Freeze. And how dare you say Stephen Fry only impersonates a clever man, that's more treasonous than punching the Queen in the kidneys.

Damn, no one understands Fry's act. He is no more an intellectual than Alan Davies is a moron or Rob Brydon is a prude. These are just 'TV land' personas.

Mr Freeze has only 1 good story. Heart of Ice, i find it hard to believe that he will continue being a criminal after his wife is cured. Unless you go with the New 52 Mr Freeze annual, which was badass btw and Snyder's best thing Batman-wise IMO.

I missed that. I seem to miss all comics that are actually good these days. Apart from Swamp Thing, which is awesome.

It turned Freeze into a stalker and the circumstances as to why she is frozen change, he's less sympatheti now, and more villain. At least it's something original for his character, and not stolen from another Bat-villain.

Nah, I prefer the traditional Freeze origin. He should be a little sympathetic, while at the same time being cold and menacing, maybe with a bit of sardonic humor like in TAS. The stalker angle would just come off weird in a movie.

My problem with Freeze, well not with him, but the idea of him as a villain (especially if it's based on Heart Of Ice).....Is that I like him too much lol. He's too sympathetic. I find myself routing for him, even over Batman. Like even if he's doing something horrible, I still understand his reasonings and he's cool as hell with that voice. I mean, it's difficult to hate him.

Even in Arkham City, if something like that happens like in the game where Batman's just pummeling him, im like NO! BATS GET OFF FREEZE! He's just a "cool" mother F'er. I cant hate the character. I feel like he's barely a villain. At least with what ive been exposed to over the years.

Ill also say that as much as ill take Freeze's origin over any of Spidey's villains (whom I love as well), maybe we've seen it already in various Spider-Man movies. You know, the doctor/scientist who has an accident or something happens to his wife...next thing you know it's like a revenge story with this transformed man taking it too over until the lead hero stops him.

You don't have to hate every villain. Most of the great ones are either sympathetic (Two Face, Freeze, Man Bat) or charismatic (The Joker, The Riddler, Ra's al Ghul) to some extent. Part of the reason I like The Penguin is that he appears to be an unadulterated bastard, but that in itself is almost sympathetic because it is his defense against the short hand life had dealt him.

I dunno. I think you can make him sympathetic, give him a cool look and persona, AND make him a clear villain. I mean, by that logic, half of all Batman villians, heck, half of all comic book vilians ever, are out. What about Two-Face, TKJ Joker, Harley Quinn? You can have your villain be likable and still have the audience want to see them defeated.

Also, not only is that kind of story inherent in the comics anyway, but there are ways you can present it so that it doesn't feel like a retread. For instance, not actually showing it. Say that after his first fight with Freeze, Batman investigates him and finds the security footage like in Heart of Ice. Or hell, just Freeze stopping by the lab to visit his wife in the tube. That way, you see how ruthless he can be before you see what he fights for. Also, you can take the TAS aspect of him wanting the whole world to be as miserable as him, so he's not entirely sympathetic.

At some point there should be some hate that you feel for the villain. At some point when you get past the "cool" factor you want Bats to stop this guy and beat the **** out of him. That's how I feel anyway. Im just saying, so far I haven't seen anything from Freeze that makes me hate the character.

I like feeling sympathetic or entertained by the villain but at some point I want to hate them. Like Penguin, he's a perfect example.

Well, he's stolen millions of dollars, caused innumerable property damage, and has probably killed a good number of people by freezing them to death. That's another thing, btw: he can probably kill people pretty gruesomely with that ice gun. Maybe you don't hate him, but aren't you at least afraid of him?

Mr Freeze, if done right, would be an interesting villain. Schumacher may have ruined the character but that's another reason to bring him.

The same goes for The Riddler, Poison Ivy, The Penguin. And The Scarecrow.

But there are so many great villains in the Batman universe, major ones and minors.
If they do just another trilogy it would be a waste of great villains. So what about a James Bond like franchise? Different directors, different actors once in a while but no reboot for a really long time. The Joker could become Batman's Blofeld for example.

I'm in favour of different directors being encouraged to tell very different stories, using these characters. Gotham could look different with each movie and actors could change just as the artwork does in comics, but there would be no need to hit the reset button so long as no director was selfish enough to kill off characters or write them into a black hole.

It would be great to see David Fincher murder mystery follow a James Cameron action epic, a fairytale-esque Danny Boyle interpretation etc.

Willem Dafoe would be neat to see as Joker. As we all know, he can do maniacally over-the-top, and I saw more Joker than GG in SM '02. Plus, he practically is the Joker's twin - facial structure is dead-on.

Johnny Depp as the Riddler, his humorous side is somewhat more subtle and I can see Depp fulfilling that.

Patrick Stewart as Mr. Freeze, he resembles the BTAS Freeze and can surely be intelligent yet ruthless (if they ever portray him like that again...)

Now, here are some I'm iffy on, but they could work...

Big maybe here, but Nicolas Cage as Gordon? He has a very Gordonesque look, and isn't as bad as some say he is.

David Tennant as Crane, he is also good at being maniacal but can be serious if need be:

Helena Bonham Carter as Quinn? She IS Bellatrix IMO, did a phenomenal job as her, and Harley wouldn't be much of a stretch.
