These guys don't have many movies under their belt, but I think they have potential. I wish Kurtzman and Orci would stay for the third. Why did they decide to leave?

I didn't care that much about first class. once Xavier and Lensherr met, it fell pretty much apart.
Thor on the other hand was an outstanding movie.

I just found Thor to be really boring.

I loved first class, I found what Vaughn did with X-Men much more interesting than what Singer did (not than X1 and X2 are bad) Thor was ok, I personally would put it above IM3 and IM2 but the rest of the MCU is better IMO.

Well, the situations aren't the same. Singer wanted to do X3, but Fox was still horrible back then and wouldn't greenlight it.

Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman rewrote First Class. So, I don't know how much of them are still in that script or Thor's. They can't be worse than those clowns Orci and Kurtzman. As much as I like Abrams' Treks, the scripts are weak. JJ and the cast elevate them.

I thought the scripts were fine for Abrams' Treks. Never found them to be weak, especially STID.

I think the midsection and finale of ST '09 are pretty weak in terms of writing.

They dropped Kirk on a random planet for a big exposition dump. There he meets two very important characters. Poorly conceived and illogical. Lazy writing.

And while I like the finale, it as that weird, "big film" dialogue and scenes all of a sudden.

With "Star Trek Into Darkness" director J.J. Abrams heading to the "Star Wars" galaxy, rumors have been flying about who will take his place in the director's chair for "Star Trek 3."

HitFix caught up with Abrams at the release party for "Star Trek Into Darkness" on DVD and Blu-Ray, where he addressed the rumor that director Rupert Wyatt ("Rise of the Planet of the Apes" ) will step in for the rebooted series' threequel.

Although there is no director signed to the project, Abrams seems to approve of Wyatt. "He's incredibly talented," he says, "and we'd be lucky to have someone as talented as Rupert. But there are things we're focusing on right now before the director, which is just sort of the fundamentals of where the story is gonna go."

"It's too early to talk about details," Abrams continues, "but there have been a lot of really exciting ideas about what comes next."

Although he apparently won't be calling the shots, Abrams will stay onboard as a producer. "I plan to be involved in the story and producing the film and I feel very blessed to be involved at all," he says.

"Star Trek 3" is expected to feature the return of "Star Trek Into Darkness" stars Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Zachary Quinto, John Cho, Karl Urban and Alice Eve. Benedict Cumberbatch and Peter Weller also starred in the sequel.

"Star Trek Into Darkness" is now available on DVD and Blu-ray.

Rupert Wyatt would be a good choice if JJ can't come back (I hope he's still a producer or something). I was pleasantly surprised by how good Rise of the Planet of the Apes was. Also, I would really like to see the Borg in the next movie. They've also been my favorite ST "antagonist" race.

Agreed! And with JJ producing, it shouldn't feel too different from the previous two Star Trek films. All of the original Star Trek films were made by different directors and I thought they all fit together pretty well (except TMP, which had a very specific feel to it).

@Loki, I don't think the Borg would be appropriate for this film since they seem to be leaning towards a Klingon war. Maybe if they make a fourth film, the Borg would be pretty awesome!

The possibilities are amazing... I think the only way to top STID in terms of scale is a Klingon War.

Then the fourth ST film would top ST3 with a Borg film... *chills*

The Klingon War was my other choice. I just love the Borg and seeing Kirk and the original crew have to deal with them would be cool.

The TOS crew never actually faced the Borg before, so this would be pretty cool!

I think Khan has a high chance of returning too.

Honestly I would prefer it if there wasn't a villain. I feel like one of the biggest problems of the Star Trek film series as a whole, is they've tried too hard to replicate Wrath of Khan by having some kind of Khan stand-in or most recently Khan himself (sort of...). They focus too much on "revenge" as a motive as well.

I would much rather the "villain" of the next film be some kind of problem that can't be solved by just killing and/or capturing a dude. That would be more true to the spirit of Star Trek I think, and I would like for the new series to try and tackle something like that at least once. Maybe with enough of a budget, and no TV series to compare it to, people wouldn't complain that it just feels like an extended episode of the (non-existent) television show.

Having these big, bombastic, black and white, good vs. evil plots is well and good, but with nothing a little slower-paced and more thoughtful to compare them to, they don't feel as big or dangerous or as important as maybe they should and could.

It's probably too late for that for this series though, they essentially started it already dialed up to 11, anything "less" than that would probably be seen as boring or disappointing to the mainstream audience.

Well, if there is a Klingon war, there doesn't necessarily have to be a main villain. The movie could be very political (perhaps similar to the Undiscovered Country, but too many people would compare it to ST3 and call it a rip-off).

I think Khan should return and play some minor role in ST3.

There would have to be a good reason for someone to revive him, whether it be humans (Federation), or the Klingons perhaps. Maybe Khan would work with the Klingons to fight the Federation while planning on conquering Q'onos with his 72 soldiers the whole time.

Sorry if this idea sounds silly, I'm half asleep right now. lol
