Regardless of her role and tone in TW, Svetlana actually acted. January Jones... yeah...

At least Viper had one or two decent scenes, her poisoning of Shingen was a great one I dont care what anyone says she really did sound dangerous in that, just a shame she didnt maintain that tone throughout.

Aside from her skin changing, I loved the menace and irony she exuded.

The hissing I could have done without too.

I'm just glad Jessica Biel wasn't in the film.

It's still better than the Origins version.

The thing about Emma in FC is that she looked perfect, they gave her Emma stuff to do, and they gave her things to say that I can totally see Emma saying. JJ just couldn't pull it off acting wise. Viper was at least entertaining and genuinely menacing at times (her powers are really complex and confusing, but also scary).

Well I seriously don't think she can pull a better performance than Svetlana, especially for a villain role.

About January Jones' performance, she just lacked ooomph and energy.

They might have also dubbed Biel.

Did they really dub her? It certainly looked like it and it is really embarrassing if they did. They didn't check in casting if they liked her voice or if she could pull off an accent? How stupid is that?

She was eastern European sounding in trailer 2 (released online May 21). So the change might have happened kind of late (Mangold said he finished with the film on June 23 except for the 3D). I dunno when/if they started test screenings focus groups and that prompted the change.

As for Jessica Biel, she has a lot of baggage and would have been mocked more publicly and on the internet with a shaved head (unless bald cap or CG) and since she got married while this movie was in production, I can see why she didn't go for it. Better for a relative unknown to have the role.

For some reason I've seen Amanda Seyfried's name connected to Viper (Les Mis connection?) but I've never seen an actual originating source. Could just have been a load of crap, though she has a similar look to Svetlana. Amanda could play a good girl some day like Zatanna instead!

With the way the character was written, I don't think casting Biel as Viper would have made much of a difference.

I prefer JJ as Frost because her performance didn't affect the movie whatsoever (for me).

I just dont like Biel as an actress so just glad she's not in it.

Neither of them were great but luckily neither bothered me that much to hurt either film, there was just much better things go on around both of them in both cases

I love Emma as a character, so I was angry at JJ. Viper wasn't bad, just tonally different.

I thought both actresses were lousy in their respective roles and don't feel the need to choose the lesser of two evils right now. I wonder though, if the ADR actress was that poor how poor was the original actress's performance? Do I even want to know?

I don't think her delivery was bad, they probably dubbed her voice because her words were hard to understand because of her strong Russian accent.

Why didn't they let her use her native accent? Viper is Eastern European in the comics, so it could have worked.

Well the script identified her as an American, or at least the doctor that Yashida met in America.

In the movie, her accent was all over the place though. Didn't get it. Sounded like the couldn't settle on how they wanted her to sound or that actress had trouble trying to mimic an American accent. Oh well.

So is it confirmed she was dubbed over? Because if they did, they did a poor job of that as well.

I was expecting a lot worse from Viper after reading a few things on here but I didnt find the character to be that bad, she was a decent foil for the human villains and i didnt mind the character being in the movie at all.

But yeah, the dub-job was awful, why didnt they just leave her with her natural accent?

It was a mistake to make her American. Viper being from Eastern Europe makes her more menacing and allows the actress to use her natural accent. That was an unnecessary change.
