Not at all. But those give people the most to talk about, because many assume getting lost in the part is something very difficult.

Nicholson was born the part. And of course he needed the make-up.

There is no subtlety or nuance to Nicholson's performance, it's loud, brash and hammy. An absolute cheese fest.

Joker without subtlety but over the top? I cannot believe that, they've killed the character.

Nolan's TDK
Animated Return of the Joker
Animated The Dark Knight Returns
Animated Under the Red Hood

Joker performances with nuance, range and subtlety.
I'll stop short of calling Nicholson's performance rubbish in comparison.

Jokers was ok

Liked Vader before the precuals.

Verbal Kint aka Keyser Söze was one of the greatest unseen villain twists.

Khan if you count the whole arc, from 1967 nuanced and calculating to 1982 mad with revenge.

Visually Alien was terrifying, haunting and beautifully designed.

No. Nicholson was over the top but had moments when he was truly angry, scared and at one point you could see some inner suffering because of his deformation. That's range, little to envy from other incarnations.

Someone said top ten CBM villain?

1. Ledger's Joker
2. Hardy's Bane
3. Hiddleston's Loki
4. Neeson's Ra's Al Ghul
5. Kingsley's Mandarin (from the commercials ONLY)
6. Eckhart's Two Face
7. Murphy's Scarecrow
8. Shannon's Zod
9. Molina's Doc Ock
10. Mckellen's/Fassbender's Magneto (kinda like a tie)

All I gotta say is poor MCU.

In terms of comic book super villains for me it goes:
1. Magneto (mckellen and fassbender)
2. The joker (ledger)
3. Loki (hiddleston)
4. Doc ock (Molina)
5. Lex luthor (spacey...this is based purely on his performance)
6. The penguin (devito)
7. General zod ( Shannon)
8. William stryker (cox)
9. Bane (hardy)
10. Kevin from sin city (wood)

Regardless of your personal opinion would you concede that Jack's Joker is judged by many to well and truly be at the table with the most famous screen villains? Yes or No.

He is certainly up there. But villains such as Vader top him. He is easily the top CBM villain though.

If we are talking about comic book movie villains, then no way as I view Alfred Molina's Doc Ock as the greatest comic book villain on-screen. I suppose it would be no way if it was not just comic book movies too...

The Joker in The Dark Knight is a truly great villain, but pales in comparison to

CBM? Sure, possibly.

All time? Along side Darth Vader, Dr. Hannibal Lector, Frank (Henry Fonda) and Colonel Kurtz, not even close.
