I recently had the idea that Patton Oswalt would be an interesting choice for Penguin, but then I found out that College Humor had already done that, so that's out.

Well then, since others have suggested Simon Pegg for the Riddler...maybe Nick Frost for Penguin?

(I've actually never seen Nick Frost in anything, so feel free to let me know if this is a terrible idea.)

Or maybe Eddie Marsan?

I like the idea of Frost and Pegg re-united as Batman villains.

Or as Gotham cops. Hot Fuzz anyone?

Contenders for Batman:

Anson Mount - My top choice. Anyone who has seen Hell on Wheels knows this is Bruce/Batman of the wild west. Plus, he's an actor that deserves a strong film credit IMO.

Karl Urban- Dude owned as Dredd, would easily translate to Batman. However, he has two franchises under his belt and I would like to see him stick with Dredd.

Matt Bomer -He embodies the suave sophistication of Bruce in White Collar, plus he is cooler than the other side of a pillow, not to mention there is a black & white photo online of him and cavill that just makes me think Supes & Bats.

Josh Brolin -Guy has the look of Bruce and Batman, plus he is a darn good actor.

Steven Strait -Has a good voice and look and if he packed on 10-20 lbs could be a good Batman for the next few years

Ben Barnes -Same as Steven, plus he has those dark eyes.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau -He has a good look for Bruce, but I'd rather he be Aquaman if the role goes of Bats goes to any of the above actors.

Luke Evans -A lot of people have brought up his name. I think he might make a good Batman if they go for a more acrobatic Bats as he has that look to him.

Brolin probably has the best look of the top contenders, but I sort of got off on the wrong foot with him when I saw him in the trailer for W. doing that stupid George Bush impression. I haven't really seen him in anything else, though, so I'm willing to keep an open mind.

Oh man, I just had a funny thought....can you imagine Keanu Reeves as Batman lol

GORDON: The Joker has escaped from Arkham Asylum.
BATMAN: Whoa.

Luke Evans is probably my favorite. He has that dark, rugged look to him. So mysterious. Yum.

But his American accent sucks hard and he's only an average actor.

In his defence, the only film he put an accent on for was that WWE film, which is a WWE film. Also, neither Cavill nor Hemsworth had any outstanding performances before being (well) cast as Superman and Thor respectively.

Batman isn't some sort of super difficult role that only amazing Oscar winners are worthy of playing. People need to realize that.

Evans is more than fine as an actor.

A role may not require an Oscar candidate, but great actors are preferred.

It is a role that is easy to play badly, and extremely difficult to play well.

Let's have a wild card. A choice that would anger or confuse the fans similar to Michael Keaton's. ChadWise Boseman.

This is an idea that's probably really nuts, a friend of mine suggested it to me a long, long time ago but it might have that same wild-card, unexpected vibe of Keaton - Adrien Brody.

If Brody played Batman, who on Earth would play The Joker.

True that not all comic book movies need Oscar winners, but it helps to have a decent actor who's right for the part. I don't need (or want) a method actor, but I do want a guy who can sell it.

And IMO, here's what we should look for in a Batman actor:
Stoic but not bland
Badass but restrained
Athletic but not overly muscular
Charming but not overly nice
Someone who can do action and a little bit of drama
Not too loud, not too quiet

That should be what we're looking for.

That's one way to look at it. "Competent and not an emotional train wreck" is another.

I really do like Caviezel and he would make a good mixture of Wayne and Batman, but if it was 2005 again, I'd say sure. If WB will still continues this crusade for an older Batman instead of a younger one then I'd say sure too, but I really want a 30 year-old Wayne, "Batman: Year One" adapted (yeah "Batman Begins" had glimpses of it but I want a full live-action adaptation or at the very least a mixture of it and "The Killing Joke" intersecting together for one impressive movie).

But the way things sound with Snyder having his eye on 'The Dark Knight Returns' as a blueprint for the 'Man of Steel' sequel... we might be getting a grizzled, in his prime Batman which Caviezel would indeed fit that bill.
