Kelsey Grammar as Beast, and Ellen Page as Kitty were great casting (as evidence with Page's return in DOFP).

Sure Ratner screwed up in keeping some of the wrong scenes and versions of scenes in the movie, and leaving what we all agree to be the better versions of those scenes deleted from the final product. Sure, it's sad that even if the story was sorta a subplot; Phoenix being a split personaloty is a far cry from the Singer and Vaughn's versions where she wasn't, and was something more akin to as if she was the next evolution of mutant, almost. But it could've been worst, and The Wolverine and DOFP have kept X3 as canon. It's flawed, and for me it depends on my feelings of the day and time on whether its okay or good, but overall; it's not as bad as many people think it is. In fact, it's what I said above: a flawed good movie, and conclusion to the X-Men trilogy.
Well, I thnk it would have been better if Singer had directed the third movie, obviously, as it would have lined up far better with the previous two as a more seamless trilogy.

I'm not really sure what Singer was really trying to say with his idea of Phoenix evolving into a cosmic consciousness, except maybe hinting that this is the future of all mankind. It was more like copying the concept behind 2001: A Space Odyssey than anything.

But Ratner's version retained some of the idea. Magneto says to Jean that 'we thought we'd found the next stage of human evolution' and refers to her as a 'goddess'. Sadly, we didn't get a firebird (for whatever reason) though.

i liked it, i read why people dont (plotholes, characterisation) - maybe its because i found singers films boring so the change in direction felt like a breath of fresh air...even if the air was that of a noxious gas

loved beast tho - great casting there

Juggernaut had good action and movements, if not character.

Contrary to what people think it was the first to hae a big team action scene.

with First Class being the first to show the teaming working in unison and aiding each other.

I agree. It would have been interesting to see that, and also see a X-Men Origins:Wolverine that he at least had more of a hand in. I think the basic stories would have been the same, but execution would have been a lot better.

- Jean's "transformation" when utilizing her dark phoenix persona was well done fx and make-up wise. It creeped me out in a way that i wasn't expecting.

If we ever got a proper Jean Grey and Phoenix, i'd love to see the black eyes come back.

- Beast was perfect.

- It may be wiped from continuity

This...even though we were privy to only 15 minutes total of Angel screen time. I was happy they included him at all. He's such an interesting and dynamic character.

-Opening scene with Angel
-Cyclops in his scenes. "Not everyone heals as fast as you Logan".
-Famke Jansen's acting as Jean/Phoenix.
-Xavier's death
-Beast
-Magneto defending Charles Xavier.
-Kitty
-The epic shot of Angel spreading his wings, despite how cheesy it is.
-Iceman vs Pyro
-Wolverine kills Jean.
-The cheesy zoom out shot while Wolverine stand proud at the end. Very James Bond. Cheesy score and all.
-Final shot in the park.
-After-credits sequence.

Beast and Kitty were well characterized and Kelsey Grammer and Ellen Page were superb casting choices.
Famke Janssen was fantastic in the scenes were she actually had to act.
I liked the casting of Multiple Man, Kavita Rao and Moira MacTaggert.
Iceman got more things to do.
Magneto had some badass speeches.
The concept of Jean killing off major characters was interesting.
Xavier's death scene was the most powerful moment of the movie.
Mystique being cured was another great emotional scene.
Angel's dramatic scenes were some of the best.
Storm's action scenes were pretty cool.
The Golden Gate Bridge scene was jaw-dropping.
The score was epic.
They had the balls to open the movie with a child self-mutilation scene.
They finally showed Danger Room.

That's it. Now let's talk about the negatives...

I don't think Kitty was well characterized. In my opinion, she was kinda random to be honest. She was used as a tool for Rogue to get jealous. Then her moments talking to Professor X and her last scene in the movie, when she was watching over the tombstones of the Prof X/Cyke/Jean felt random to me.

Famke's look in the movie. It's so different from the comics but somehow fitter her very well. The hair looks fake, but i can look past that since i'm totally obsessed about long red hair.

The fight scene in Jean's house and Mystique getting the cure are also cool, probably my favorite scenes.

Beast was the best thing about The Last Stand. He's better than this Beast we got in FC & DoFP.

I also loved how they made phoenix, the final scene when she went OP gave me vibes for what Apocalypse would be like when he shows up.

I'm an X3 hater through and through. I will admit though there are a couple of sequences in the movie showing Magneto and other characters' powers that are undeniably cool.

The first is the scene where Magneto 'rescues' Raven. His destruction of the caravan is epic.

The other scene that stands out is the scene where the **** hits the fan for Xavier. The couple of things I liked about that scene were the Storm power demonstrations, and the fight between Juggernaut and Wolverine. When Juggernaut throws Wolverine through the living room ceiling and he then falls through the ceiling in the other room was great.

Again, these are isolated scenes which is reflective of the way that Rattner threw the film together. Instead of having a vision of a solid foundation to the film, he had more of an episodic vision that was characterized by a series of vignettes that didn't have enough common threads. The exemplory example of what a disatrous approach this was was the glaring timing error of the golden gate bridge sequence. One second it's day, then all of a sudden it's night. TERRIBLE!

An honorable mention is the speech Magneto gives in the church at the beginning. It was spot on Magneto!

Spoiler Re: Say something positive about The Last Stand

I loved the Juggernaught and I loved little Kitty Pryde beating him.

And of course Famke Jannsen, but she could look hot wearing hobo pants, hell in this franchise she already has

That being said, X3 didn't really stand out as a sucky movie for me. In my world there's the first and First Class 1 and 1a respectively, then X2 then all the rest including Days pretty much tied. Call me a weirdo but I just can't drink this summer's cool aid. Days was heavily flawed.

John Powel's score is the best of the franchise. And.....that's about it.
