It was actually sweeping and heroic and inspiring and of course beautifully orchestrated. I wanted something like this for Supes, a proper theme, not just ****ing drums.
really this was just drums to you

If so, I agree. He was a genius. He could do both the orchestral heroic and the surreal.
What about John Barry, another master who's left us?

Actually, there's still one legend alive - Ennio Morricone. Could he do something?

I was talking about his son, Joel, who passed last year. He was just as gifted as his late father. He also knew a thing or two about adapting other composers' material skillfully into his scores.

Zimmer's "Flight" deserves a far better arrangement for orchestra, than it was for MOS. Joel or Shirley would've done something wonderful with his material.

I liked "If you love these people" a lot. Some of it even sounded like some JLU type stuff. I thought that track was awesome.

But on the whole, Zimmer's score underwhelmed me just a little.

I'd like to see Zimmer further develop his work from Man Of Steel, bring in a second composer for Batman.

From the MOS OST, I loved Arcade, I will Find Him, What are you going to do when you are not saving the world, Look to the stars, and a few more. A lot of them are variations of each other. His music is always amazing.

I think it was I Will Find Him that they played during the first phantom zone scene and the world engine release scene, gave me chills watching those scenes with that music.

Zimmer just has a way.

^This.

A second composer might not be such a bad idea, that way Zimmer doesn't doesn't have to reinvent the wheel again by creating a new Batman theme from scratch and perhaps fix some faults if they were present in the first place with the current score.

I agree with you on Beltrami. His work on The Wolverine was outstanding, and delivered on the action.

And Beltrami knows how to deliver the sound the director and studio want, without compromising his own voice.

I'd say Christopher Drake, IF he ever moves onto major motion pictures. He's doing the new Arkham Origins game score aswell. I particularly like his music for Batman: Under The Red Hood, All-Star Superman & The Dark Knight Returns.

James Horner's Spider-Man theme doesn't come close to Elfman's and it couldn't have been that great if he's being replaced by Zimmer for the sequel.

It's surely going to be Hans again and since this is meant to be a different Batman, I'd like to hear something new from Zimmer. Something similar to Drake's work, if possible.

fixed.

Yeah I put some of Drake's music in my original post.

Although seriously, the score in MOS was really good in my opinion. I'm kind of glad it diverted away from anything remotely close to Williams' theme while at the same time showed music that felt epic, grand and super in its own right. I'm glad we got to see an evolution. If Batman could get past the 1960s Adam West theme(even though people liked it and it's beloved) then why can't Superman?

Hans Zimmer's "Terraforming" track on the MOS soundtrack I thought was pretty good too.

But I honestly do hope we get a different composer for MOS. When Zimmer is good, he is good, but he's too hit and miss for me, his stuff underwhelms me a lot.

I'd love to have a more Williams/Elfman-esque composer/score, or just have Zimmer do those themes. I'm sure they'd sound great but in his own way if he did them. But I guess that may be asking too much.

I absolutely loved Zimmer's work on MOS... I think it's the best work he's done. I really enjoyed his Batman theme, but I found his MOS score bolder, definitive. I hope they keep the main themes of that score, at least for Superman's scenes. Batman should get his own theme; I don't mind if they reuse some of the Nolan Trilogy stuff or come up with something new.

If they cast Scott Adkins as Batman, the theme will have to only be one note so it can match the actor's performance.

With you on that, big time. Zimmer is so versatile, he is the John Williams of today. (did you know he did the music for Kung Fu Panda and the Lion King, which is why I think there was a little Lion King vibe in the birth scene).

I thought MOS was a much better overall score than DKR, less bombastic
and a lot more "soft" gentle movements to even out the emotional scheme of the film.

In terms of its completeness, check out the "What are you going to do when you're not saving the world ?" track , which is the end title music.

It starts of softly, with the "family" theme, just the piano, and then the drums come in (I thought in particular the drums were so well used, to set the tempo of the film) and finally it builds to a really epic blast. It pretty much covers the feeling of the whole film. How people could come out and say that they didn't feel hopeful ? I don't know maybe they saw "The conjuring" by
mistake, and just thought they'd seen MOS. LOL

I would be bold enough to say that the MOS score is a notch up even from
the Dark Knight score, which was an epic masterpiece, just a little too OTT.
Although I think the Harvey Dent theme was a brilliant element, and that track that plays when Harvey holds Gordon's family hostage - Zimmer gets
the mood just right, you are horrified, but feel pity for Dent. I thought Zimmer's Zod theme was great, a little shade of the Imperial March,
had a nice epic feel (like when Jor-El escapes from the council chamber and sees that civil war has exploded on Krypton).

While I was a huge fan of Williams original Superman march, it would have
seemed out of place in MOS. Zimmer got it exactly right.

If Zimmer's going to score BM v SM, which makes sense for continuity's sake,
they should reuse elements of the BB/DK score, with new elements for any new characters (which he's shown he can do). No, Zimmer's the only man
for the job.

Having said that, the only other worthy movie film composers, who can actually make you a bit emotional with their scores......Michael Giacchino
and Howard Shore. Otherwise, it's gotta be Zimmer all the way.

Peace.

ps- for those of you who've seen it, Zimmer also did True Romance back in
'93, awesome film, and a fantastic score and soundtrack. That was my first
Zimmer experience.

I saw that video the other day After watching it, I decided to go ahead and buy it. I don't own a record player though, so it's purely for collecting reasons. It's only $25 AND it come's with a code for the digital album. So I think it's definitely worth the price.
