I enjoy both. But if I am to choose TDK is the better movie.

I'll have more problems choosing from two movies I enjoy and that stand as equally good.

Right you are, T.J. It was all very well and properly covered in the movie.

Not even close, at all.

The Dark Knight, will be watched fifty years from now and still be just as good. The Avengers, is pretty good but very forgettable.

A better debate is what is the second best comic book movie in the last 10 years.

Today I actually watched both of them back to back. They're my two favorite comic book films. For me, The Dark Knight is the best DC film and The Avengers is the best Marvel film. And for the life of me, I can't choose one over the other. The fact that I prefer Marvel over DC has nothing to do with it either. Trying to compare TDK and The Avengers is like comparing pizza and ice cream. Both are great, but they're so different that I can't compare them. It just depends on what you're in the mood for. I will say that The Avengers was probably the most fun I've ever had watching a film at a theater (so much that I saw it 6 times in theaters), but I'll also say that The Dark Knight is the only film I've seen where I was actually bummed when I walked out of the theater because the movie was over. Maybe that puts them on equal ground, but take it as you will...pizza and ice cream.

This comparison really isn't fair. They are COMPETELY different types of movies that just happen to be in the same genre. Comparing them is like comparing Alien to Wall-E just because they're both sci-fi, there nothing alike. Both are fantastic, but for different reasons.

Real life is scarcely like that; I'd rather heroes I can relate to.

While Bruce acknowledged the Joker's victory, verbally, showing it through the ending of TDK, and first act of TDKR always beats telling. I'll go ahead and let everyone know I enjoyed Iron Man 3, so I'm not here to engage an a fanboy's crusade.
I'll still disagree about mob criminals letting a hill of money get burned just pass my normally pretty high suspension of disbelief. I guess we relate to different things and kinds of heroes. hard won sure, Pyrrhic every once in awhile but only if its well done. Have enough of those in real life thank you but even I usually come through properly when the chips are down. I don't watch Superheroes for life size anyway , I watch for larger than life.

I'll have to force myself to watch TDK again , I sure don't remember at any point him acknowledging the Joker outsmarted him by tricking him into making that decision. I was so disappointed by TDK I didn't see TDKR so I don't know if they acknowledged it was stupid decision on Batman's part. That's what I want not just the fact he's hunted.

The worst sniff test was the ferries, that not only didn't they use the space where the bombs were but no one smelled or checked the space. There's a several page long debate between a posted and a transit employee about that one. I'm pretty much inconvincible on this one but again I might have let it go of I saw the positives in TDK you obviously do.

No the Joker really won because of the stupid ass decision he made to trade a living incorruptible symbol and protector for a dead martyr.

Very very true, They strike very different cords and its extremely logical because they are so different opinions are so extreme.

Well, I guess this is about what I expected. I'm glad its as close as it is though. I think TDK still reigns supreme in these boards.

There's the odd fan who would choose Spider-Man 2, Batman '89 or Superman the Movie but these two seem to be the top dogs. I love them both. Roughly equally. Definitely depends on the mood I'm in.

See, neither film would work with the other's aesthetic. You could not do a massive team movie as subdued as TDK was. And vice versa with Avengers.

Slight edge to TDK because it has a stronger ending and Ledger's performance is the greatest in the genre. Both are 8/10 movies for me.

To me, TDK is just a superior movie. To be honest, i donīt even think itīs close. And the movies are so far apart from each other that i really donīt think they should be compared. TDK should be compared to movies like Casino Royale. The Avengers should be compared to something like...humm...Spider-Man?

The Avengers is the type of movie that i think i would have loved when i was 12 yro or something. As a Kid, i prefered movies with very simple and basic plots, that didnīt make me think too much, colourful characters and tons of action.

As i got older i started to give preference to movies with more complex and intelligent plots. I like stuff that makes me think and really intrigues me. I like to be surprised and emotionally challenged, and i didnīt get any of that from The Avengers. I found the movie to be a cool pop corn flick. But nothing more than that. To me it was "more of the same", but done a little better than usual. TDK, on the other hand, is ground breaking. Amazing movie in almost all aspects.

Characters: TDK

Villain: TDK

Soundtrack: TDK

Plot/Story: TDK

Action: The Avengers

Acting: TDK

Cinematography: TDK

Visual Effects: The Avengers

TDK: 9/10

The Avengers: 7/10

That's simply unfair to TA. You can't hold it against the movie for being a PERFECT representation of the Avengers comics. That is what they are. Also, as fantastic as TDK is, and it REALLY is, it is not really that groundbreaking. Nolan admitted to taking things from Heat and the Bond films, and that's obvious in the movie. TDK is also "more of the same" just done exceptionally well.

I think I'd enjoy TDK more if its fans didnt hold it on such a high pedestal above every other cbm out there. The super nolan fans really get on my nerves. And thats comin from a guy who loves batman and the nolan films. Theres no reason to have to put one movie down to build another up

^That's probably where I am. I don't give unabashed praise to any movie or any actor, ever. I don't care if they're even that good, I just don't like to give them that much leeway.
