I'd rather see Batman open the film, beginning in the dark, dreary, stormy Gotham and Batman taking down a villain, then transitioning to the brighter, hopeful Metropolis and the Daily Planet.

Wouldn't that pretty much dictate that the film would be mainly pro Batman than Superman then?

Yes which is why it should be avoided if this is a true MoS sequel like they are saying.

I think the state of Metropolis will very much depend on how much time its been since MOS.

I kind of thought they would hold off on batman, just so they could build up to the reveal....I kind of think well start off with some sort of press conference with either Bruce or Lex, if he's in it

This Is a batman and Superman film. That means It's equal batman and superman. Not man of steel sequel guest starring Batman.Nor is it batman reboot guest starring Superman.

I can see them like world's finest of Superman the animated series starting In gotham and then going to metropolas. You may only be In Gotham for first 20 to 25 minutes.

Well I wish they would officially clarify as such since every other news site keep reporting this film as a sequel to MOS and before someone brings up the example with "The Avengers" and the films that came before it, not once do I recall "The Avengers" being labeled as a follow up or "sequel" to either Thor, Iron Man 2, TIH, or CA.

Kind of a new topic here, but I didn't want to start a new thread since it'll probably get derailed anyway.

I just finished reading Superman: Flyby by J.J. Abrams. I noticed a lot of similarities between that and MoS in the first 60 pages or so. What I did find very interesting was how they progressed Luthor's character. It didn't like him being an alien or a CIA agent, but I did like that he was used as a physical threat at the end. That was what really solidified to me that they were going to go head-to-head for a long time.

I get that some want Lex to be solely a cerebral villain, but I feel that him going toe-to-toe with Superman early in their history expands on why he has to rely on using other villains' physicality in the future. It also would setup an epic rematch since they'd both be experienced fighters down the line should they meet again.

Would Flyby have been a good movie though?

It's well-written, but not a Superman story that I'd see in place of Man of Steel. There were way too many liberties taken with Krypton, his parents, Luthor and Perry White was a direct rip of J. Jonah Jamison. It was an interesting else-world story and I did really like the way that Clark was portrayed.

or was a different failed project??

Flyby is different. In Flyby, Krypton is war-torn and Jor-El and Laura send him to Earth to fulfill a prophecy to save Krypton. Jor-El was originally like the king of Krypton, then his brother overthrows and captures him. The main story is about Jor-El's brother's army hunting for Kal-El.

I could've sworn that was one of the scripts for Superman Lives.

The reason that I read it recently was because I couldn't remember the difference between it and Superman Lives. I don't know what the rule is on sharing something like this, but it can be found with a simple Google search.

PS: No Zor-El. New family.

Superman Lives was the Tim Burton Doomsday film, killed by Doomsday resurrected by Eradicator, zombie suits etc.

Superman Reborn was the very short lived film where Superman dies and and his soul impregnates Lois and she gives birth to him and he ages rapidly.

Superman Flyby is the one where the first draft has Lex Luthor as a Kryptonian.

Those descriptions sound... Suboptimal, if I am being charitable. But then again if I was told all the stuff in MOS second hand I would most likely hate it too. Actually watching it I came away loving it to peices (I now await the inevitable posts that attemp to change my mind about MOS and how EVERYTHING in it is terrible, from script to acting to VFX to the colors to Cavil's hair to production design to how Crowe pronounced "Krypton"...)

And you're forgetting the "You're a monster, Zod! And I'm gonna stop you!" line.
